UPDATE ON WEENIE

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

Oh my Dogness!! It is soooo cold this morning in Houston, 22 degrees with a wind chill factor of 2. Not anywhere nea as cold of some of you guys but way to cold for a 63 woman with old Arthur-RI-Tu's holding her hostage. Mommy forced me and Weenie to go out this morning at 4:30 am. We was back in the house at 4:32. Ya never saw 2 wienies pee so fast. Had to, the pee pee turned to ice before it hit the ground and if your as close to the ground as me and Weenie, you'd understand.

Aunt Judy took Weenie to the eye specialist yesterday. It didn't go as good as we hoped. Aunt Judy sent this e-mail to Mommy at work:

Subject: weenie

No surgery,no cataracts, retina degeneration, got steroids to see if they'd help but doc doesn't hold out much hope

This is the e-mail Aunt Judy sent to ATDR:

[AllTexasDachshundRescue] Weenie's eyes
From: Judy Spring

I took Weenie for his appt with Dr Hermann, eye specialist, today. He doesn't have cataracts, he thinks it is SARDS "sudden acquired retinal degeneration". There is no treatment or cure. He did put him on steroids for the next 3 weeks in case it is inflammation. He doesn't hold out much hope though for him ever regaining his sight. Weenie is one sweet little guy and the best patient ever. He's back with Sarah now. Dr. Hermann wants to know if there is any change in about a week.

Too sad but there is always hope. My new foster brother will not be given up on. If he never sees again, he will be loved.

Mommy as to leave early for work today because of the weather since folks in our part of Texas don't know how to drive on ice so she wants to beat the traffic.

So to leave you with something funny to laugh at here are a few videos Mommy was sent.

Ditto to what Frankie said!
My mum knew a lady daty had a doxie and they went through da VERY same thing. Her said her had to learn NOT to pick him up to carry him around cuz then he would get too dioriented as far as his surroundings go. He did great getting around with him not being ables to see.

Too bad there wasn't better news about Weenie's eyes, but let's hope and pray for a miracle. Maybe those steroids will help. And if not, blind dogs can do very well with the proper love and training. We hope Weenie can stay to live with you because we know that you and Mommy will take such good care of him.

Stay warm.
