"God, let me be the person my dog thinks I am."
Hi friends,
Mommy & I had a wonderful weekend and other than going to the store on Saturday and to church on Sunday, she was home with me the whole weekend. We did nothing at all except watch westerns, nap and sit outside. It was actually kinda cool in the mornings, well not really cool but below 80 degrees, so Mommy stayed outside with me until it got hot. Here are a few pictures Mommy took of me being my usual inquisitive self........or as Mommy says......my usual nosey self.
Before we go on to the adoptions for August, Mommy wants to say how proud she is of one of the managers in the office where she works, Neil, or my Uncle Neil as I call him. Every morning Mommy & Uncle Neil spend a few minutes talking about me and all kinds of stuff about dogs and cats. He's the one who has Tigger, the cat, and had a dog that died several years ago. He has been wanting another dog for a long time and he wants it to be a rescue. Mommy told him she doesn't care what kind of dog he gets, just so it is a rescue. So yesterday he brought the above
flyer to show Mommy. He started volunteering there on Saturdays and Sundays, walking dogs. Mommy doesn't know that much about this group but the whole idea of it is to save dogs through adoptions that were at BARC. In case you don't what BARC stands for it's the "Houston Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care". Mommy's definition for it is the HELL HOLE!! The Houston BARC has been an embarrassment for years and as far as CARE is concerned, they don't know the meaning of the word. In 2005, when Mommy first started transporting for DROH, she got a call from the director of DROH, asking if she could go to BARC to pick up a puppy that was scheduled to be killed at 5 pm. Mommy was a manager then and could come and go as she pleased, so she left work as soon as she got the call, at 4 pm, and arrived right before 5 pm. These caring people said it was too late to pick him up. That was not the thing to say to the Mommy and she raised the biggest stink and they gave in. They made her go into the killing room to get him herself because they were too busy. Mommy was furious, not because she had to go get him, but because in the hallway was schedule of who got to do the killing each day. It was a horrible thing to see. Right on the wall where anybody could see it when they walked in, not something a rescuer wants to see. If you enlarge the picture, you can see their e-mail address. It really caught the Mommy's eye......... savebarcanimals@yahoo.com
Mommy refuses to say that other word for killing animals. She grabbed that little puppy and almost ran out of the place and hasn't been back since. She named him BOBBIT. He was jumping around, up and down, like a cork on a fishing pole. Get it Bobbit?

Your mom is quite fierce. I would not mess with her, no way.
Always good to see doggies finding furever homes.

Oh! The adoptions make us so happy. The dogs all look terrific and they have such happy lives awaiting them! Thanks for putting up Frankie's picture! :) Alli
Yay on all the adoptions!!!
Ohh I hate BARC, it is a horrible place and they have someone new in charge, don't have high hopes honestly. I've heard sooo many horror stories from that place.
Good for your mama for getting that poor puppy out of there!
My angel kitty Tux came from BARC but thru Petsmart.
We love seeing the adopted doggies! Thanks so much for sharing!

That's right, nine more saved. Great work from DROH. Mona, you look great in your pics too. Not nosy at all, just checking things out.

Great news about the adoptions!
Mom says she'll try to get my picture taken with flowers for you. She says I don't pose very well, but really it's she doesn't press the button fast enough! hehe
