Mona & the Birdie

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"Heaven goes by favor. If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in" -- Mark Twain

Hi Mona's doggie, kitty cats and hamster friends,

This is the Mommy posting today. Something really shocking happened today, something I would never have expected based on Mona's previous behavior. I took the day off , so that I could get the A/C fixed in our car. Since I planned on getting a rental car and get some grocery shopping done, I didn't put Mona in the kitchen behind the doggie gate. When I know I am only going to gone several hours or on the weekends, she has free run of the house. I left the patio door shades pulled up so she could look out to check for birds, lizards & squirrels who have the to nerve to come into HER yard. She barks at them non-stop perched on HER chair in front of the patio door. Here is an example of what she does whenever I am gone. Usually when I drive into the driveway, she starts barking non-stop until I let her outside. Since I had groceries to unload, I opened the gate and was bringing the groceries into the yard and putting them on the wooden patio bench. Mona wasn't barking!! What was wrong? She always barks when she sees me & I could see her looking out. After bringing several bags to the bench, I noticed one of these sitting on the top right edge of the patio bench staring back a Mona through the patio door. It didn't even fly off when it saw me!!!

This is a Plain Chachalaca---the one I saw looked kinda chubby like this bird.

Or was it a White Winged Dove
Maybe it was a Western kingbird. I was so shocked even to see a bird, I'm not sure what it was.

Click on picture for a good look.

This is the bench outside in front of the patio door where he bird was perched.
I just couldn't believe it....a dog & a bird.....staring at each other through the glass. How long he or she had been there & why Mona was not barking her head off was a wonder to me. What was really funny was that this bird didn't fly off when it saw me. Does Mona have a birdie friend, I don't know about. Normally she would chase it off and it would squawk at her from a tree until one or the other got tired. Will wonders never cease? Have any of you ever shown this strange behavior. Since dogs, cats and hamsters can be friends, is it possible that birds can be their friends too?

Well, the dealership called & said our car will be ready by 5 pm so I will be leaving soon and I guess Mona will be sitting, like she has since I got home, looking out the patio door for her new friend.

I took this picture when I got home and other than going outside to do her business, she has hardly left her perch. Wouldn't it be something if her friend showed up again.

Have a good day.....the still shocked and amazed Mommy.

I would have smashed against the glass to get it! Is the bird blind? Becoz last time my hooman B & mommy found a blind bird on the road & it was alert that there were people walking pass it. A car almost ran over it too. It just stood there. Mommy stomped her feet, it didn't fly away. It was severely blind as she could see that the bird's eyes has sunken. I don't think the bird survived...

Everyone needs a friend, a buddy, a pal. My brother cat, Harley, used to have a possum that came up to the patio door. They would look in at each other about twice a week. Unfortunately, mom never got a pic of it.
