" Ever consider what they must think of us? I mean, here we come back from a grocery store with the most amazing haul -- chicken, pork, half a cow. They must think we're the greatest hunters on earth!"

During the month of May ATDR only had 13 adoptions. Summertime is a very difficult time for adoptions but we won't give up. That just means that we were able to take in 13 more. It's why we and DROH do the things we do.
Rudy, a tan dachshund mix, was found wandering during the disastrous forest fires in Bastrop. He was kept at the Bastrop County Animal Shelter for weeks. After no one arrived to claim him, he moved to a foster family in Austin.
Lend Me A
Pup I will lend to you for awhile a puppy, God said, For you to love him while he lives and to mourn for him when he is gone. Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or maybe for two or three But will you, till I call him backtake care of him for me? He'll bring his charms to gladden you and when his job is over you'll always have his memoriesas solace for your grief. I cannot promise how long that he will stay, since all from earth return, But there are lessons taught belowI want this pup to learn. I've looked the whole world over in search of teachers true And from the folk that crowd life's land I have chosen you. Now will you give him all your love Nor think the labor vainNor hate me when I come to take my pup back again. I fancied that I heard them say "Dear Lord Thy Will Be Done," For all the joys this pup will bring, the risk of grief you'll run. Will you shelter him with tenderness Will you love him while you mayAnd for the happiness you'll know forever grateful stay. But should I call him back much sooner than you've planned Please brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand. If, by your love, you've managed my wishes to achieve, In memory of him that you've loved, cherish every moment with your faithful bundle, and know he loved you too. -Author Unknown SPECIAL NEEDS DACHSHUNDS ATDR does everything in its power to help our rescued doxies regardless of their medical needs. Redford has the will to walk and although it is slow he will be taking more and
more steps everyday! Go Big Red!

WHn says she will make a quilt for you to auction, just like the one she is making for the WDA cancer walk in the fall, if you would like! (In honor of Joanie of Ark)
Our heart's ache for these sweet, little, loving doxie's! It's beyond our comprehension how someone could dump or abandon a helpless pupper. God Bless your rescue!
Hugs,
Lily Belle
P.S. WHN is totally AMAZING & THOUGHTFUL!!
These pictures just RIP MY HEART OUT!
GO BIG RED INDEED!!! Amazing. I love that quote too, we really must be great hunters!
First, what a great job with with ones who have been adopted! It may only be 13 but that is 13 awesome dogs who now have loving families! :) Second, poor poor pups who are sick! We will be thinking of them and praying for their full and speedy recovery! We had mange when we were little and thankfully it was caught in time and we were treated and are totally fine. It was never as bad as her mange, but we know it is itchy and painful and we are so sorry she has that!! What horrible people who did not get her treatment right away and allowed it to get that bad. Mom wants to adopt them all, but of course we told her no and that she cannot have any more pups. She is very impressed by ATDR and wishes the best for these special needs dogs, too!

I am so happy to read of the doggies who do find homes and at the same time so sad for the others. I can't comprehend that kind of abuse, it makes me ache. You are so wonderful to do all you can to help these babies.
