A very said week for ATDR

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"Whoever said you can't buy happiness forgot little puppies."

Dearest friends,

The Mommy here.......

This is not the post I had planned on doing today. I have been taking pictures all week of the kids and Baby Girl, some that are really cute, some great Weenie videos, Weenie & Mona coming home from the groomer and the stuffie murder that took place in the car Thurday and just pictures of Baby's Girl's visit. She is going home tonight, I will miss her sweetness. But yesterday on my way home friom work, I learned some very tragic ATDR news and I have been upset all day. Sometimes it's just too hard to cope with the grief of loving dogs.

ATDR has been over run by puppies. Recenty we took in 12 puppies and one Mom. One, Barbie, was going to be adopted by the couple and their two children that I did the home with with last Friday. All of the puppies became sick but we weren't sure with what. It was PARVO. Barbie died and the other pup, Sparkle, they were interstested in, so far has survivede. But it wasn't just one we lost.

Here is the e-mail we got yesterday......

Just a quick note for everyone to know what has been going on with the Puppies. There were originally 12 pups that came from Bay City, two litters with one mom. Three were doxie mixes and the other 9 were the babies on the front page of the website. They contracted PARVO and have all be in isolation and at the Emergency hospital for three days. This has been a horrible week for ATDR – we are now down to four puppies (2 mixes and 2 dachshunds). Sparkle and one of the mixes, Luis have gone to a foster home from the hospital (one last night and one today). The other mixy pup is holding his own but Woody is really struggling today. We are going back and forth but will not let him suffer! We are doing everything that we can and will continue to try to save them! I have cried a river over this so I just wanted to share.

Tomorrow is the Spring Fling that DROH as every year, remember that's the Rescue group I adopted Mona from. We are going and I spoke to Minna Krebs's Mom and she is going to try to come with Minna & Pickles, who were adopted from ATDR but their Mom does transport for DROH. I will be taking lots of pictures of lots of dachsunds and hopefully it will cheer me up and make me remember why I do the things I do.

Here is a picture of the kids with Baby Girl, so you can see Mona's new haircut and them all shining and freah looking from their day at the spa.

Love.........Sarah, the Mommy.

Oh Sarah, I am so sorry to hear about the puppies. It is heartbreaking. Parvo is a horrible thing. Sending thoughts and prayers to you, ATDR and the puppies.

Love, Eileen (Cupcake's Mom)

Oh, that is so sad. Parvo is a killer and so hard to beat. Soft woos and gentle hugs - the Rainbow Bridge got way too much young life there this week.

Just now got home and read about this although I heard about it on your phone message earlier. It's just so sad. That's almost the same thing that happened in the litter Amber was in. The first male we picked out died along with two of Amber's brothers. Amber also got sick and almost died. Max was the only pup in the litter who remained healthy. Amber recovered leaving Max and Amber the only two survivors in that litter.

This is so very sad. I am crying tears with you as I read this.

Oh, we're so very sorry. Parvo is a terrible disease and so hard for puppies to survive. Three of Oliver's litter mates passed from Parvo (they weren't really siblings, but they all came in together). The only reason he survived is that he came down with an upper respiratory tract infection and was pulled from the group earlier. God works in mysterious ways. We'll be praying for the others that they pull through. Hugs and love to all.
