ARTHRITIS WALK

2011 BAY AREA ARTHRITIS WALK

Doxies have Arthritis too!! Join our Team! Come join us as we take a stroll with our doxies to support a cure for arthritis! Many senior doxies suffer with arthritis and we want to show our support! Our challenge is to make a difference in our community by participating in the Arthritis Walk as part of "Let's Move Together", the Arthritis Foundation's nationwide movement that encourages people to move to prevent or treat arthritis. Please join us and come by our booth after the Walk!!

Come on down and help in the cause. Walk with your doggie or push them in a stroller!

2011 BAY AREA DOG HERO

SOPHIE

2011 Bay Area Dog Hero

We adopted Sophie from Dachshund Rescue of Houston in January of 2003. Her age was estimated to be 2 years when we adopted her, so she is about 10 years old now. Sophie started slowing down quite a bit last year, and the vet said she's probably experiencing some joint pain due to arthritis. He suggested a supplement containing glucosamine and chondroitin, formulated especially for dogs. Sophie still isn't as active as she used to be, but she seems to be feeling a lot better. Since Dachshunds are prone to spinal problems because of their unique shape - and being overweight doesn't help - we are careful to keep Sophie fit and trim. It's also important not to let Dachshunds walk up and down stairs or do a lot of jumping (try telling that to an active Dachshund!). As with humans, good nutrition, exercise, and weight management are necessary for the health and longevity of our pets. We call Sophie, rescued from the streets eight years ago, "Our Beautiful One". She is definitely our Dog Hero.

"Hey Mona, don't I know that little doggie?"

"Yep, sure do. She's Miss Suzanne's little girl and she has been on our blog many times."

"I know, I know...she was the cutie that kept trying to cuddle with me when we was at the DROH Spring Fling stuffing party."

"Are we going to go Saturday!!"

"Well of course we are."

"But Mommy can't walk with her knee messed up. So whose gonna walk you? You can't go alone."

"Not to worry, I'm gonna walk with Jennifer and her doggie Bailey."

"But what about me? Mommy said I might get stepped on cause I walk so slow but I'm blind you know ." (sniffling)

"Don't cry, Weenie!! You get to ride in a stroller!!"

"Mona, Minna Krebs and Pickels was adopted from ATDR too, so ya think they might too?
