My Mommy wants to share a video my Aunt Judy sent us. It is beautiful and brilliance like this needs to be shared. Mommy has heard Taps played at several military funerals but never knew the words that went with it until now. It made the useless killing of Marcus Luttrell's dog Dasy even harder to understand but she was a hero, as far as we are concerned, just like Marcus is so we dedicate this post to her memory.
Melissa Venema, 13-year old Dutch Trumpeter, is the trumpet soloist as she plays "Taps" in its entirety. She is playing it on a trumpet whereby the original was played on a bugle.
The original version of Taps was called Last Post , and was written by Daniel Butterfield in 1801. It was rather lengthy and formal, as you will hear in this clip, so in 1862 it was shortened to 24 notes and re-named Taps .
Taps
Day is done, gone the sun, from the hills, from the lake, from the sky.

We just caught up on your bloggie and read the post abt Dasy. It made mom so sad and upset at the same time about the senseless murder... what evil hearted people would do this?? We hope they rot in hell... **hmmmph**

My Mom was laughing at the cat video...
She says Tigger used to do that stuff all the time...She is very old now & only eats & sleeps, but when she was young she did that stuff all the time...

You are so sweet, Mona. Of course you can use the picture but you might want to wait and see some more for Thunder and Phantom. Thunder's is ready but we need to wait for the rain to stop to get Phantom's. Too bad about the cancellation.
