HURRICANE IKE RESCUES

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole"

Hi my dear friends,

The Mommy would like to thank everybody for keeping JODY in your thoughts and prayers. The Mommy has been very upset about what has happened to Jody but she knows that DROH, Chris and Tina will do everything possible to help him. He is under crate rest and is on steroids but he is at home. He isn't able to walk even though drags himself around but they can't let him do that. There is no guarantee that if he had surgery again, it would work. DROH told Chris that several months ago someone donated several carts that maybe Jody could use to get around in if he is going to be paralyzed. Please keep him in your prayers and the Mommy too cause you all know how she is when there is a problem with any dog she cares about.....and that's all dogs.

Update of IKE the kitty cat: He is doing great with his family and has a 4 year old best buddy taking care of him. Every cat should be as lucky.

In the wake of Hurricane IKE, DROH has taken in 3 dachshunds that were rescued....we were ready to take in as many as we did during Hurricane Katrina but THANK GOD!! only 3 were found. We hope that means that everybody took there animals with them. We were so relieved that people where allowed to take there pets with them this time. We would like to thank all the different rescue groups in the Houston/Galveston area for being there to save as many pets that they could, that did get deserted by their owners. For those people that left their animals behind, may God have mercy on your souls because me and the Mommy have non for you.

Monday the Mommy was visiting with Aunt Judy and the boys when we found out about a little female dachsie wandering the streets in Galveston. She was emaciated, dehydrated and very scared. We named her TINY TINA. After she ate a little food she perked up and is the sweetest little girl or should we say lady since she has obviously had puppies at some point. We are waiting to hear from our Vet that she is OK. She hasn't been coughing or anything, so we are hoping she is heart worm negative. She looks so much like Jody that the Mommy joked that she could be his Mommy.

This little fellow was named IKE by the person that rescued him. He was one of the many dogs in Houston that was found right after the hurricane. He is under observation at one of the Veterinary Clinics that help care for our rescues.

This little girl was named SNOW WHITE. She is a double dapple and is nearly blind. She was at the SPCA and they called DROH about finding her. They think that she might have belonged to a backyard breeder that used the hurricane as a excuse to dump her because she is blind. It against the law to breed double dapples but its still being done and the Mommy says if she could catch these ignorant, lawbreaking, idiot breeders she would lock them in jail and throw away the key.

Ike and Tiny Tina are still receiving care but will be available for adoption as soon as they are given a clean bill of health and we already have fosters ready to take them in until they find their forever homes. Snow White is with a foster already and because she is blind, we didn't want her to get stressed out by being crated. She will also be available for adoption but she will always have DROH to care for her as long as she needs it. We have had other blind dogs in our program and they were all adopted so we have great hopes for Snow White.
Every animal deserves to have a home with a loving family so that's why rescue is so important. The picture below is of AUDREY, a little girl in our program that came to DROH in the same condition as Tiny Tina. She was given a second chance and now she is a happy & healthy. She is available for adoption now.

WHAT A SMILE!!

Tomorrow the Mommy said we will do my SUNDAY IN THE COUNTRY post.
Love, kisses and (((huggies)) to all.......Mona & the Mommy too!!

Hang in there Jody, we just know that you are going to recover!

All of these Doxies are very sweet! I have not seen a Doxie like snow white before. Special thanks to all who helped rescue these furbabies. They all deserve another chance.

Kisses

Hi Mona

What wonderful work you & your mommy do for those helpless animals. I agree with your mommy's opinion about certain pet owners & I know that they will get thiers some day.
I hope that Jody is feeling better and all of the doxies you have rescued find forever homes like yours.

Love Ruby

I hope all the 3 pups can find loving homes soon. Curse all the breeders who make use of dogs as money making machines. I hope more people will boycott them and let them be out of business. Its a tough job thou.

Luv
Snowball

I bet Jody would do good wheeling around in one of those things. Poor little thing.
Is that the cat that was at your mom's work? Did someone give him a home? If you poseted about that I guess I missed it.
That's great only 3 dachsunds needed rescuing. We were very glad to hear people got to take their pets this time too. When we heard the Katrina stories Mom says she'd be the crazy lady on the news sitting on her roof refusing to leave without us.

We really like today's quote, Mona.

Thank dog that people were able to take their pets with them this time. Poor Tiny Tina, she will thrive under DROH's care. And Snow White - we've never seen a doxie with her colouring, and now that we know how it affects doggies, we hope we never see one again. It is so good to know that there are people who will always be there for doggies like Snow White.

We are still thinking healing thoughts for Jody. If a cart would work, that's the way to go for sure.

Thinking of you all.

Brown dog kisses,
Dannan
