A POEM

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"The average dog is a nicer person than the average person" -- Andy Rooney

Hi dear friends,

Tonight the Mommy has a poem to share & a point she wants to make so I'm turning this post over to the Mommy......love Mona

From an unknown poet...

Why own a dog? There's a danger you know,

You can't own just one, for the craving will grow.

There's no doubt they're addictive, wherein lies the danger.

While living with lots, you'll grow poorer and stranger.

One dog is no trouble, and two are so funny.

The third one is easy, the fourth one's a honey.

The fifth one's delightful, the sixth one's a breeze,

You find you can live with a houseful of ease.

So how 'bout another? Would you really dare?

They're really quite easy but, oh, Lord the hair!

With dogs on the sofa and dogs on the bed,

And crates in the kitchen, it's no bother.

They're really no trouble, their manners are great.

What's one more dog and just one more crate?

The sofa is hairy, the windows are crusty,

The floor is all paw prints, the furniture dusty.

The housekeeping suffers, but what do you care?

Who minds a few nose prints and a little more hair?

So let's keep a puppy, you can always find room,

And a little more time for the dust cloth and broom.

Your folks never visit, few friends come to stay,

Except other "dog folks" who live the same way.

Your lawn has now died, and your shrubs are dead too,

But your weekends are busy, your off with the crew.

There's dog food and vitamins, training and shots.

And entries and travel and motels which cost lots.

Is it worth it you wonder? Are you caught in a trap?

Then the favorite one comes and climbs in your lap!!!

Dear Mommies and Daddies,

One of my fellow volunteers with DROH sent this poem to me which means a lot to me because it is just the way I have always felt about dogs. My heart is still broken over having to give 4 of my 5 dogs back to DROH because of my health and members of my family. My heart will always be with Siskle, Peanut, Jacks and my Toby. All were readopted pretty quickly except for my Toby. I think I worry about him more than the others because he is still available for adoption. He is special and always will be because of the fight we had to keep him alive while I was fostering him. How I could I not adopt him after what all we went through together.... Good news, I hope. There is a lady & her son that live in Galveston, that are wanting to adopt him. If they pass their VET CHECK, he will be adopted soon. Please keep my Toby in your prayers. I know that his foster is taking wonderful care of him and she said he will stay with her until he gets adopted. But I want him to have a forever home.

DACHSHUND RESCUE OF HOUSTON had a very busy June. We had 9 adoptions and have already had 3 so far this month. So I just wanted to show some pictures of the lucky ones who have found their forever homes and some of the wonderful fosters we have.

The lady on the left is Shelly, she fostered Mona and Jacks before I adopted them. She adopted Jacks when I gave him up because she missed him so much & wanted Mona too but I had to keep my Mona.

ALEX -- adopted 06/02/08

CORKIE -- adopted 06/09/08

EVIE -- adopted 06/10/08 -- no picture available.

LITTLE BIT -- adopted 06/14/08

PETE -- adopted 06/14/08

KADY
-- adopted 6/17/08

You have all met Kady before in some of Mona's previous posts. She is on the left and her new brother Dozer is on the right.

HARRY
-- adopted 06/24/08

REMY -- adopted 06/25/08

DESTINY -- adopted 06/28/08

The best thing about being a foster, is that you get to make the final decision on whether a dog will be adopted by a family because you have raised that dog, given it love and care and know if it will be a good match or not. I have been lucky enough to still be able to keep in touch with all my boys & even get to see them once in awhile. I know there are a lot of Mommies and Daddies that do exactly what the poem says, foster and adopt, and from the bottom of my heart I thank you all for what you do for all rescues around the world.
Hope you enjoy the pictures. Good night....the Mommy, Sarah
