FINAL INSTALLMENT SPRING FLING

Hi friends,
QUOTE OF THE DAY:
"The dog is a gentleman; I hope to go to his heaven, not man's" -- Mark Twain
I have something to say --- all the doggies in the previous 2 posts & this one were either owner turn ins, abused & tortured or just plain discarded like trash on the side of the road, in garbage bins or left in the middle of a busy thoroughfare like I was. We are all alive and happy today thanks to DROH and all the volunteers that work so hard to bring us back to health & give us a loving home until we are lucky enough to find a forever home. You would think that with the hard starts we had in life or getting abandoned like some of were, we would not trust any humane but that is not the case. Even an abused animal knows when someone is trying to help it & we never ever forget the fosters that took such good care of us & made us whole again. The Mommy is always amazed that whenever she sees one of her former fosters, even if it has been months or years, they seem to remember her and run to her like they had never left us. Now you know why there is so much crying around here but at least they are happy tears -- most if the time. I want to thank all the rescue groups & fosters around the world for giving doggies like us and every other breed a second chance.
OK -- now that I've got all that off my chest, I want to show you all the different shapes & sizes that us dachshunds come in. Someone once told the Mommy that I wasn't a dachshund because we don't have long & wiry hair. WRONG!!!
There are long haired, wire haired, piebald and dapples. There are minis, tweenies and standards. There reds, chocolates, speckled, spotted, black, black & tan and gorgeous dogs like Chloe (reddish brown and blond) and of course ME (black and silver) not gray like some folks say -- I am still a young thing!! There are also mixes -- like a chi-weenie. We also want to share some stories of some of us that would have been euthanized were it not for DROH.

This little chocolate girl is Tator Tot. She was found on the side of a road by the City of Houston with a broken pelvis when she was about a year old. She might walk with a little limp but she can outrace the bigger dogs when she sees something she wants. She was adopted right after she came off the "receiving care list".

This doggie was born with a deformed left front paw. Her owners were going to put her down because they thought she was worthless and would never walk. That was 8 years ago.....Does she look worthless to you?

This little red long hair was injured somehow (maybe a kick to the head) when he is was little & is now blind. His name is Bennington & he is the sweetest little boy and still available for adoption....his foster said he can stay with her family forever if no one wants to care for a blind dog.

This is Henry. He was being walked by his owner when he was attacked by two pit bull dogs. His stomach was riped open & his other injuries were too horrible to even describe. His owners couldn't afford to treat him so he was surrendered to the HOUSTON SPCA and they called DROH to see if we wanted him because they thought it would be useless to treat him. That was several months ago but except for a lot of scars and no hair around the middle, he is doing better than anybody ever thought he would. He has since been adopted by a family that said it didn't matter what he looked like & that his hair would grow back....he does look a little naked.

OK .. the Spring is now history and me & the Mommy hope you enjoyed all the pictures and the dachshund history lesson.

This last picture was me when we got home. Can you see how exhausted me was and didn't even want to get out of the car. The Mommy had to carry me into the house and the she made me go outside to do my business. After I did my business, me jumped on the Mommy's lawn chair and slept till it got dark -- it's hard work having so much FUN & EXCITEMENT!!

Hey Mommy, how much longer until the Halloweiner party?.....6 months.....me don't want to wait that long for the next party.
Love you all lots!!!! ........ Mona

You are so lucky you get to go to partys. We don't understand how people can be so cruel. I wish all the dogs in the world could have a loving home.
