OUR ANNUAL BUG ALERT

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

(courtesy of Twix)

"If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door."

Hi dear friends,

Memorial Day has come on gone and it's officially summertime. So it's time to take all the necessary precautions to make sure that we stay safe. That means stay away from all those nasty bugs that just love to prey on all us doggies and our humans too. So just to let you know what to be on the lookout for Mommy is posting pictures of the worst there are. Mommy has had run ins with all of these pesty creatures. When she was a little girl, her Granny had wisteria vines all along the fence and Mommy was very stubborn and used to play near the fence, so she was aways getting bitten by wasps.

In case you didn't know, all flying bugs love flowers, and they suck up the nectar and when one of us bothers them, ya better watch out. My brothers Toby, Jacks and Peanut was always getting bitten by bees, because they was always chasing them. So please stay away from the following bugs and don't be sniffing on the flowers when they are around.

The Mosquito..........the worst find of bug that can kill us. That's why it's so important that we take our heart worm medicine religiously. So many pups are lost because they never got heart worm prevention medication. Enough said!

Wasps........They always travel in groups and these are the ones Mommy has been bitten by the most. Fuzzy, Mommy's dog, used to get bit too because where Mommy went she went.

Bees.....If you mess with one, he'll sound the alarm, so it's best to leave him alone or ya better be a fast runner. One bit my brother, Toby, on the nose and he blew up like balloon.

The Fly......disgusting, nasty, always flying around when your trying to eat outside, turn your snoot away from your food bowl for just a second and they swarm all over it, almost impossible to catch.

Hornets..........a close relative of bees. Mommy stepped into a hornets nest when she was picking flowers one day when she was around ten years old. She had to go to the hospital and get all kinds of shots. It was the worst pain she ever had.

*****************

Now Mommy says that bees have a purpose in life like making honey and killing a bee that attacks you is OK but if you know there is a lot of bees somewhere, it would be better to call a beekeeper to try to safely move the colony.

Remember the "Sharing" e-mails that SJMC gets once a week from administration? Today they sent this called "the Buzz on summer grilling"

The person that owned this grill, knew there were bees coming from under the cover and knew they needed to be killed or relocated.

So he knew smoke bombs weren't for bees but he decided to smoke/suffocate them out. So he tied the bomb to a rake, that was designed to easily maneuver under the cover. The sound from under the cover was incredible. Then he ran like crazy! Coming back a few minutes later he saw the death toll....

One mass grave.

He removed the cover and found the hives.

Can you imagine what would have happened had he whipped the cover off. But in this case I am with the bees. They were only doing what their jobs are. They should have been relocated by a beekeeper, so remember before you fire up your grills, after a long winter's sleep, BEE CAREFUL!!

**************

Of course there are some bugs that are harmless like doodle bugs and these three bugs. The make you giggle and are awfully cute and fun to play with.

My brother, Jacks

Puddles, of We 3 Doxies

& her brother, Albert Remember stay away from buggies.

Love, kisses and {{{Huggies}}} to all..........Mona & the Mommy too!!

Mona, thanks for the reminder! Mom hates bugs of any kind. I love to chase bees and get stung and I always end up at the vet. Mom says I won't learn my lesson. Let mom see a tick and you will hear screaming all the way across the country probably. Lots of love, Holly and mom

Thanks for the warning, Mona! I don't like bugs very much. Luckily, we don't have too many here in Collie-rado. But sometimes I see a bee or a hornet and mom tells me to stay away!

Haha! Those are some awfully cute little bugs at the end of your post, though!

Thanks for the summer buggie tip!

We are sorry about the honey bees though. We totally agree with you about the relocation. There are so many less left, since they are dieing off everywhere. No bees...no food...no more noms.

I don't mind bugs, except for the ones that are stingy or that make you sick. Happy, however, likes to eat any bugs he gets hold of.

Now buggies make my puke...especially ants and flies. Mum looks like a dork in da summer carrying a fly swatter around like gun toting cowboy. I've been on da search to find her a holster fur her fly killer.

Yikes! All those bees! Thanks for the warning. Mom gets the most frustrated at the mosquitoes this time of year. She says those are "nasty little things" and she hates them!

(In response to your comment on our blog) That is so neat that you get to see a dapple doxie named Shelby. You'll def. have to post some pics of her! :)

We are not big bug fans around here either. Once when Dottie was a baby a bee stung her in the face and made her eye lid all puffy. She looked like such a doofus! Hahaha (oops, Mom says that's not funny (but we know it is!))
