Quote of the day:
It's that time again. 44 Lucky pups finally found their forever homes during February. One that broke Mommy's heart when she read her story and saw her rescue picture but now makes her smile and our hearts leap for joy. Dame Puppy Mills to Hell!!
Lovie Update..........
DROH's vet believes Lovie’s spinal injury is old. Because of that she is not a candidate for surgery. On the upside, though, is that she has a great dachshund can-do attitude that is going to get her far. She has some mobility in her right rear leg and some bladder and bowel control. She even managed a wonderful dachshund tail wag today! She will be kept active to see what she can do on her own. Her life will be evolving over the next 6 to 12 months as she goes through different courses of therapy: acupuncture, water therapy, cart work and general movement. She has a much more positive prognosis than originally expected and she can't help but think it's all the positive thoughts, paw prayers, and donations already sent her way. Tail wags of thanks to all!. Donations are needed to support her on her journey.

Matilda's Story.......
Description:
Matilda was recently rescued from the San Patricio Puppymill seizure in Ingleside Texas! She was suffering from a huge inguinal hernia and several large mammary tumors from having litter after litter her entire life as a breeder! Surgery fixed her up and now she is on the way to a new life!
Matilda is happy to be free and living the good life now! She lived her whole life outside and is learning to be a housepet. Her foster mom sometimes finds her lounging on the end table! She is crate trained and very quiet in the house. She loves to find places to snuggle up and make her own, she particularly likes the laundry basket! This is one of the most charming girls we have ever known and she is always happy, tail wagging all the time!
The right home will come along for Matilda and she will be the best companion of all time! It is a pleasure to have her and anyone that adopts will really be a lucky parent! She is very special.
Three cheers for Matilda, she has overcome so much in her life!

I Rescued a Human Today.
Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels.
I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so
she wouldn't be afraid.

As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my
cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers
get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card, I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the
As she read my kennel card, I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the
future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life. She got down on
her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up
against the bars to comfort her.
Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her
Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her
cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well. Soon my kennel door opened
and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her
safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see
that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor.
So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At
least I could save one.
I rescued a human today.

Message from Lucy's forever family:
Lucy is adapting just great. Her fears are being eased and she is loving the lovin'. She loves her new toys, especially critter. I throw and she retrieves. I will find my slipper missing as I step out of the shower and find a tennis shoe precariously hanging off the side of the bed. She doesn't chew them up, just takes them. Silly girl. She is cold most of the time. Lucy snuggles under the covers up against my back or behind my knees. She does NOT like to get up. She's like a teenager that way. Here are some pictures I've taken. Enjoy!

Message from Sasha's forever family:
Sasha is doing fine! I love her! She is so sweet! I will try to get some pictures to you soon. Looking forward to it being warmer and dryer outside. She is still warming up to all the dogs around here, but in time she will be one of them. She and my Yorkie are getting along well. As I send this, she is lying on my left, and Dodger (my son's Dachshund) is lying on my right. Love it! Thanks!

Message from Oliver's forever family:
We love Fenway so much! On his first night home with us, Franklin, our shy rescued Basset went over and laid with Fenway on his bed and they slept that way all night! Oliver (aka Fenny!) is doing really well! He's super affectionate and loves to hoard toys in his bed. He and Franklin get along great and he's making great progress walking on a leash! He's still a major wiggle worm when we put the harness on but has calmed down quite a bit in the last week. We really love him and he's a wonderful addition to our home! Thanks again for everything and we do plan to attend the Weenie Bash next month.

Message from Ghibli's forever family:
We renamed the little guy to Ghibli. He and Benz, our 14 year old dachshund, have become big buddies. Benz has to straighten out the young one every once in a while. He is certainly a character! Benny loves the sun! He is just what we needed for our older Dachshund! He likes to eat and play. Thanks Again!
Although she has only been with us a couple of days, Kenzie (who I have renamed Lilly) is doing great! No doubt that she knew almost immediately that I was her new Mommy. On Saturday evening, she slept in the bed with Legend (my other dachshund) and I. She LOVED it!

Lilly and Legend |
She also greeted my son, Jeremiah in the morning with some very sweet kisses as Legend does every morning. Yesterday, Legend had a physical scheduled and they also let Lilly be seen with him so that they can be on the same time-frame for check-ups. I'm happy to report that the only thing wrong with the both of them is that they are very spoiled. :) I can reassure you that she is in great hands!

Message from Maggie's new family:
We got Maggie (Goldie Tate) on the 16th so she has been here almost two weeks. I can't begin to tell you what a perfect match she is for my other dachshund Cooper (also a rescue) and myself.
Maggie and Cooper |
We were meant to be together. She has adjusted to her forever home immediately. Within a couple of days she already responded to her new name. She goes outside with her brother Cooper and if not on your lap and showering you with kisses she has found her favorite spot on the couch. She goes in her crate for the night without a peep and loves being in or outside as long as it's not too cold or raining! I love her to pieces and I have been waiting for her to join our family. Thank you DREAM for our new love in our life, Maggie Mae.
I adopted Pearl a few days ago. Her name is now Bella Vita which means "beautiful life". I am so happy to have her and will give her that beautiful life. She is so adorable! She weighs 7.5 pounds and is a bundle of energy. She is doing relatively well on her house training, still having accidents. She is getting along quite well with the other doxies, although, they won't play with her yet. I think that will come with time. She curls up in a tiny ball in my lap everytime I sit down. We have already grown to love her. She is such a wonderful addition to our little minagerie. God bless you, DREAM, for what you are doing and for giving me my little Bella!

Here is a picture of Hank and his new brother, Giorgio, hanging out with mom while she gets ready to go. I'm sure Hank is in HEAVEN having a comfy bed in every room for him (literally).
