SEPTEMBER 2013 DACHSHUND ADOPTIONS and A RIMINDER

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

I knew them in a heartbeat, I could tell they felt it too.

They said, "We have been waiting for a special dog like you."

Now every night I say a prayer to all the gods that be.

"Thank you for the life I live and all you've given me.

But most of all protect the dogs in the pound and on the street.

And send a rescue person to lift them off their feet."

  - Arlene Pace

Sorry for the delay, but it was worth the wait.

~~his story~~

Sweet little Otis found himself homeless, down on his luck, and in danger at a shelter.  As you can see from his pictures, this little darling has only one eye.  We are currently checking into any eye issues, but presently nothing seems to be slowing him down and he hasn’t required any special medical attention in his foster home.  Otis weighs about 8 pounds and is the sweetest little dog you could ever find.  He loves lap time, cuddles, burrows like a pro, and gives the best kisses ever.  Otis likes to cuddle with his foster brothers and tries to play some – even though they are a lot bigger than he is!  He absolutely loves to play in the yard and chase squirrels.  In the evening he jumps up on a lap and is content to hang out and is the perfect little dachshund.  He is almost potty trained and does crate during the day although it appears he would do well on his own roaming the house as well.  If you look up the word sweet in the dictionary, Otis should be the definition.  His foster daddy says “HURRY” if you would like to adopt him!  This little affectionate ball of love just warms your heart and it is impossible not to fall in love with little baby Otis.

Update 3/23/12
Little Otis had his partial eye removed, the socket cleaned and closed.  He came through surgery fine and has continued to gain some weight.  He no longer has ribs showing and is a happy, healthy 3 year-old.  His stitches come out March 26 and he then he is ready for his forever home.  His eye will require no further medical care at this point.  Otis hangs out at his foster home with dogs quite a bit bigger than he so his foster dad started to call him "Little Bittle" and that got shortened to "Bittles".  He LOVES that name and answers to Otis and Bittles now.  In fact, he has turned into quite a talker.  He jumps up in your lap and "tells" you all about his day with little grunts and groans as he kisses you and welcomes you home.  Bittles is absolutely the sweetest thing you could ever hold and love.  He craves a lap, loves the other dogs, is playful as could be, and burrows and snuggles with the best of them.  He is one happy little guy and is going to make someone a perfect little dog.

Sweet little Bittles was with ATDR for quite a while but you
never give up and his time finally came. What a way to end a
month.
