MICROCHIPS DO WORK--RUDY'S STORY

SANTA PAWS is coming in 16 days.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"Don’t lose hope. When it gets darkest the stars come out."

 Dearest friends,

Something wonderful has happened to one of ATDR's foster Moms and adopters. What a miraculous and joyous Christmas Terri and her family will be having this year. After 16 months their lost pup was found, thanks to his microchip. She never gave up hope that someday he would return, if he was still alive.

Here is an e-mail we all got on Dec 6, about Rudy being reunited with his family in time for  Christmas.

Hello, group!

Wanted to share some good news!!!! One of our foster moms and previous adopter, Terri, just wrote me that her Chihuahua/Rat Terrier dog, Rudy, has been found and returned to her!!!! He has been missing for sixteen months!!!! But because he had a microchip, when Animal Control picked him up they called Terri. She was heartbroken when he went missing and she was unable to find him. He's a very friendly little guy so she assumed someone just kept him instead of returning him since his tag had her information on it. When he was found that tag was still on him.

It gets better!!! Terri recently adopted a female dachshund from a local animal shelter and the two of them get along splendidly!!! Both are black/tan smooths! Those microchips work!!!!
Congratulations to Terri, Rudy and Sally!!!!

I'm so happy for them. Their dog may have survived much hardship and danger over some, if not all of the past 16 months. I tell quite a few folks, many of whom I work with, to get their pets micro-chipped without delay. Often, it's obvious to me who will and who will not do it.

There's another twist to this story! Terri had updated her new cell number with Home Again in hopes that someday Rudy would be found. That's a good thing to remember. Always keep your info updated with your dog's microchip company. I wish Rudy could tell us where he's been. I always prayed that someone was caring for him, but just didn't know to check for a microchip. Rudy will be sleeping good tonight with his mama!!!!

I vow to have my dogs scanned annually when they have their physicals to be sure their chips are still there. I often forget, but will try to do better.

This story brought tears to my eyes, much joy and
happiness and made me think about having hope
even when things seem darkest. Every dog I have
ever had has been micro-chipped and each year
I have it scanned to make sure it works. It can not work,
so it is very important to check it periodically.
My third adopted dachshund, Siskle,  had a chip but it
didn't work. I had another one put in. It doesn't hurt more than getting a shot would and the peace of mind is worth it. There are so many companies to chose from too.

When I adopted my Weenie, I had Dr Briles make sure
he had a chip and called 24PetWatch to get the old
information removed and mine added. His owners gave
him up because they didn't want a dog going blind, so
I wouldn't trust them to even care if something were
to happen to my little man and he got lost.

Please, Please if your pet isn't chipped do it now.

I asked Terri if I could tell Rudy's amazing story and she said yes. I got this e-mail from her today......

Sarah

Here is a picture of Rudy, my Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix. He's about 10 years old now. He went missing on 8/21/11 and on Tuesday, 12/4/12 is when Keller Animal Control Center (ACC) called me and told me they had found him.

They couldn't believe it when I told him he had been missing for over 14 months. I told them I was "on my way". I turned my car around and headed over
there...it took about 30 mins and I was reunited with him. I told the lady at the ACC "I did the math wrong, it's been almost 16 months." Then a coworker of hers brought him around the corner to me. I cried and so did the woman at ACC. She said "this makes my job all worth while and you have made my night".

She also said that if anyone called looking for their missing the dog the next day and if they described Rudy she would be telling them that he had been reunited with his rightful owner.

Rudy recognized me as he started to kiss my face all over. He is back home now with his new adopted dachshund sister, Sally. They get along very well and play all day long.

Rudy has a new bed, new blanket, new collar, new harness and new tags. The day he went missing he was wearing his collar and tags, but they still didn't get him back to me. It was the micro chip that got him back to me almost 16 months later. The HOME AGAIN chip works, no one should ever own a dog without owning a micro chip

This is a photo of Rudy the night he came home and his sister.

I know that some pups from DWB are missing so please,
Never, Ever give up hope. Our prayer is that some day they will come back home.

God Bless........Sarah

PS.......Here is what's left of Mona & Weenie's shoes.

Hi Sarah, Mona & Weenie!
We (me and the puggums) love that story and each of my babies has a HomeAgain chip. I must have the vet scan for the chip the next time they are in to make sure it is still working.
Much Love,
Mindy :)

Mom loved this story! We are both microchipped and Mom gets them to check at the vet sometimes to make sure it works every now and then. :) It's a sweet story and we are glad he's home!

Murphy said exactly what we had in mind. Any pup tale with a happy ending is THE best. So glad this Rudy was returned to his owner.

BOL - Mom just knew that was going to happen to your new shoes - they are actually in better shape than they would be here:)

What a wonderful Christmas present that must have been. Now Mom is all weepy too. And speaking of microchips....our recent addition (Autumn) had a Home Again microchip when we adopted her. I called to update the information and found out that her first owner who got the microchip NEVER REGISTERED THE MICROCHIP! So had she gone missing, the microchip would have been useless. So if you get a microchip, don't forget to REGISTER IT with your information.

Hugs to Weenie from Amber!

I'm so happy for Rudy and Terri. He is so cute. I've got my microchip, my Mommy wouldn't have it any other way.

Mona and Weenie really loved playing with those shoes.

Love, Cupcake

That reminds me that we forgot to get my chip checked at the vet last month! UGH.

Such a beautiful story. We love happy endings. That's such a good thing for that family!

We had a foster pup reunited with his rightful owners via facebook (he wasn't microchipped). Taysia Blue microchips all the fosters though so he is now!
