QUOTE OF THE DAY:
~~~ the Mommy, since 1967.
Hi friends,
This post is all the Mommy's doings. None of us was even alive in 1955. A little background for those of you that don't know the Mommy. She is old as dirt. She was born in 1948 in Houston and she remembers all the stuff your gonna see, well most of it. She was 7 years old in 1955. She is gonna comment on some of these items.
The Year Was 1955
Did you hear the post office is..............
thinking about charging 7 cents just to mail a letter?
If they raise the minimum wage...........
to $1.00, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store.
(I started working at St Joseph Hospital in 1967, and am still there after 45 years.When I started working there I made $1.75 an hour. I thought I was rich.)
When I first started driving, who...........
would have thought gas would someday cost 25 cents a gallon? Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage.
(When I started driving, after 8 years of riding the bus, gas was up to 55 cents a gallon, and I thought that was highway robbery.)
I'm afraid to send my kids to the..........
movies any more. Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying DAMN in GONE WITH THE WIND, it seems every new movie has either HELL or DAMN in it.
I read the other day where some............
scientists thinks it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the century. They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas.
Did you see where some baseball.........
player just signed a contract for $50,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the President.
I never thought I'd see the day.............
all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They're even making electric typewriters now.
It's too bad things are so tough...........
nowadays. I see where a few married women are having to work to make ends meet.
It won't be long before young............
couples are going to have to hire someone to watch their kids so they can both work.
I'm afraid the Volkswagen car.........
is going to open the door to a whole lot of foreign business.
Thank goodness I won't live to..................
see the day when the Government takes half our income in taxes. I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to government.
The fast food restaurant is..........
convenient for a quick meal, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.
There is no sense going on short............
trips anymore for a weekend. It costs nearly $2.00 a night to stay in a hotel.
No one can afford to be sick.............
anymore. At $15.00 a day in the hospital, it's too rich for my blood.
(Several years after I started working at the hospital, a lady came up to the cashier's office, were I worked at the time, to pay on her maternity bill from when her son was born. She had a bill from 1937. The room charge was .55 cents. The total bill was $45.00. Needless to say that bill had dropped off the books more than 32 years before. We told her to forget about it, but she insisted on paying the bill in full. So we agreed to take whatever she wanted to pay and donate it in her name to the St Joseph Hospital Foundation. She said her husband had recently passed away and left her a small inheritance which she was going to use to pay off all the bills they had. She would come every month or so to pay a dollar or two. She would give us a check but always made it payable to me, why I don't know, and I would endorse it over to the hospital each time. She was a lovely old lady and we became great friends. She stopped coming after several years and one day a man came and asked to see me. The said he wanted to thank me for being such a good friend to his Mom. She always told him that a nice young lady always took such good of care of her. I've never forgotten her. When I think about it, I realize why I'm still there.)
If they think I'll pay 30 cents for a haircut, forget it.
Look familiar? Like I said before "Ah to be young again."
