Elvis is in the House

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

Elvis is in the house....

but he ain't dancing.

Mommy was looking at pictures on the home page of ATDR's website where there are some of our dogs needing special care or surgery when she saw ELVIS. Someone once said that dogs don't smile. We don't believe a word of it. If Elvis isn't smiling, we don't know who is. Mommy just can' t stand it when she sees a dog injured like poor Elvis is, so Mommy said we could spare some of our treat money to help him. Here is his story:

Introducing Elvis, our newest ATDR addition! Elvis is a wonderful 2 year old Dachshund that has an injured pelvis. He LOVES to make friends with other dogs, cats, & kids, but because of his pain, he is not able to enjoy running and playing with them. He is in need of a surgery called Femoral Head Ostectomy that removes the femoral head & neck of the femur. This procedure will save his leg & allow him to live a long & healthy life! Please help Elvis by donating towards his pending procedure. No amount is too small - Elvis has a lot of life ahead and a lot of love to give!

Guess what? Remember when Mommy went on the home visit, a week ago or so, and meet a new wirehair, named GYPSY? Well yesterday her Mom & Dad picked up her new sister. Her name is Ivy, but not for long, cause they are gonna change it. Can't tell ya what it will be yet but one of the names Mommy liked is in the running. She is a red/blond standard puppy about 3 or 4 months old. As soon as we know her new name we'll post her picture. She is gorgeous!!

Today when Mommy was looking for a quote of the day, she found a website with poems about rescue and has been crying ever since. We hope someday there will be a time when there is no need for rescue groups, but Mommy says that will never happen in her lifetime so we have to do what we can, as often as we can. We pray for that day every day of our lives. Mommy was so excited about Ivy getting adopted because that means another rejected pup can be saved. Here is the poem that started the crying. Sorry to make you cry too but it was so moving and unfortunately too true.

Do I Go Home Today?
By Sandi Thompson ~

My family brought me home cradled in their arms. They cuddled me and smiled at me, and said I was full of charm.

They played with me and laughed with me, they showered me with toys. I sure do love my family especially the girls and boys.

The children loved to feed me, they gave me special treats. They even let me sleep with them all snuggled in the sheets.

I used to go for walks, often several times a day. They even fought to hold my leash, I'm very proud to say.

These are things I'll never forget a cherished memory. I now live in a shelter without my family.

They used to laugh and praise me when I played with that old shoe. But I didn't know the difference between the old ones and the new.

The kids and I would grab a rag for hours we would tug. So I thought I did the right thing when I chewed the bathroom rug.

They said that I was out of control, and would have to live outside. This I did not understand although I tried and tried.

The walks stopped, one by one; they said they hadn't time. I wish that I could change things, I wish I knew my crime.

My life became so lonely, in the back yard on a chain. I barked and barked all day long to keep from going insane.

So they brought me to the shelter but were embarrassed to say why. They said I caused an allergy, and then, kissed me goodbye.

If I'd only had some classes, as a little pup I wouldn't have been so hard to handle when I was all grown up.

"You only have one day left," I heard the worker say. Does this mean a second chance? Do I go home today?

I'm crying too. The homeless animal situation is so sad.

I hope Elvis gets his surgery soon and can run and play.
