My New Summer Haircut, My Hero Weenie and a Rescue Story

QUOTES OF THE DAY:

"A dog will quickly turn you into a fool, but who cares? Better your dog than your boss. I'm a fool for my dog and proud of it."

Friday Mommy just couldn't take it anymore. It has been so hot and I been lookin like a rag muffin, so she dropped me off at Pets Mart for Ms Lilly to work her magic on me. Here's my new summer haircut. I didn't get scalped but it is short. Mommy told Ms Lilly just to leave the curls on my face, head and my tail. Weenie didn't want to go just to take a BATH but Mommy made him go anyway. Sorry little fella!

Do I still look pretty?

OK, now I gotta tell you what happened last week. I love my brother, Weenie so much and am so glad Mommy decided to adopt him, and I know he loves me too, he proved it to me last Wednesday. By now everybody pretty much knows my rescue story but very briefly for those of you that don't here goes.

I was found dodging traffic during a terrible storm when I was about 6 months old, right in front Veterans Memorial Cemetery here in Houston. Thankfully, Miss Shelley got out of her car and caught me. She could tell I was a wirehair dachshund, even though they say I looked like a drowned river rat. She took me home and decided to foster me until I rescued my Mommy.

Ever since then, I have been terrified of thunder, lighting and fireworks. When Mommy is at home and I had my brothers for company, it wasn't so bad. But when my brothers went away in 2007, I was by myself when Mommy was a work. I'd drag all my stuffies to my big leather chair and we would all hide under my blanket until she got home. That's why I was so happy Mommy adopted Weenie early this year. He's not scared of nothing like that. Weenie is blind, you know, and since he came to live with us Mommy we have only seen him jump up twice, once into Mommy's recliner and once into the car. What he did was remarkable. He loves me, he really loves me and is my hero.

Wednesday it started storming early in the afternoon and was still storming when Mommy got home. She got soaked getting out of the car, she looked like a gaint drowned river rat, he he! Usually Mommy can hear us barking from the driveway but she didn't hear a peek out of us. When she came into the house, we weren't behind the door like usual. What she saw shocked her. Weenie was laying in my big chair draped across my blanket with my stuffies. She didn't see me. Mommy called my name and I peeped out from under the blanket.

Weenie knew I was scared and had come to comfort me!! It had rained for hours and all during that time my brother's body shielded me from all the scariness. If that's not love, I don't know what is. He jumped!! The jumped for me where he'd never gone before or even tried. I was so happy to see Mommy and flew off the chair into her arms. Weenie stayed in the chair and waited for Mommy to lift him down. Of course Mommy had a good cry over the whole situation. We was over at Oskar's earlier looking for a flower picture, as you can see we found one, and I saw his post about his Thundershirt. Mommy needs get get me one of those things

OK, now it's Weenie's turn.....

I gotta tell ya what happened to me Thursday morning around 2 am. I had a accident in our big bed. My poop shooter exploded! I must have had a tummy ache or something and it just happened. Mommy felt something warm and jumped up. I whimpered, cause I was afraid Mommy would scold me and throw me out of the bed. She didn't. "It was nasty, Weenie!" That's what Mona said when she jumped off the bed, so she didn't get pooped on. Mommy just grabbed me up and we both went into the shower. Then she took the sheets off the bed, threw them outside and put clean sheets on the bed. Then she put Mona back in bed and took me to our recliner and sat with me for hours rubbing my belly. That's what I call true love! My tummy was upset but I didn't mess in the bed or in the house after that but Mommy said she could tell my poop was a little loose.

OK, so here's my point. Why did I have to go to take a BATH when Sissy got her haircut Friday, if I just has a bath on Thursday morning? I say a dog needs to be a little dirty and I know all the boys in Blogville would agree.

So I got another bath, actually 2 baths on Friday. Yep, that's right 2 baths. My poop shooter exploded again while I was at the groomer, and I had already been bathed. It was but just a little bit but Ms Lilly made me take another one. She called Mommy and Mommy said she'd come get me but Miss Lilly said she'd watch me real good. So what does Mommy do? She calls and makes a appointment for me for Saturday with Dr Briles, our VET.

Yep! I had to go get my poop shooter checked out. We all know what that means. I was violated and abused. Not only did he take my temp in the butt but stuck something up by rear end to take some poop out. I would have been glad to give him some without him having to do that. I didn't have any parasites but I gotta take 3 kinds of medicines for my stomach and runny stools for awhile.

But, that's not the worst of if! Mommy had my anal glands expressed. But I got Dr Briles and the technician back. I tried to get away and my poop went flying, all over Dr Briles's nice white lab coat. Of course Mommy was so embarrassed, but Dr Briles said that's why he always brings an extra. This picture was taken Saturday at the Vet.

We pretty much stayed home this weekend so Weenie could rest and thank goodness no more storms this weekend even though it did rain. Mommy said we need the rain cause it's still so dry. One more thing to share.

Mommy got an email today from Ann at http://www.zoolatry.blogspot.com/. She's sure that some of you go it too. It made her cry because she felt that way when I rescued her. Here is that e-mail message:

This is sad, but beautiful ~ and heart touching piece was sent to me earlier
today by Helen, loving Mom of Perfectly Parker.
The author is not known ~ but the piece is worth sharing.
Feel free to pass it on. With love.

I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor
peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.
As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view
from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and
I didn't want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card I hoped that she
wouldn't feel sad about my past.
I only have the future to look forward to
and want to make a difference in some one's life.
She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me.
I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up
against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck;
she was desperate for companionship.
A tear fell down her cheek and
I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.
Soon my kennel door opened and
her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe.
I would promise to always be by her side.I would promise to do everything I could
to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.
I rescued a human today.

And this was Mommy's response:

Oh Ann, thanks so much for this. I truly believe it is true. 6 years ago my Mona rescued me. I was ready to give up after my Samantha died but
Mona's little face changed my mind. I have much to be grateful far.

Love Sarah

So much to comment on. But first of all, you look so good with your summer cut, Mona. And we bet you feel a lot cooler too. And what a very pawesome brother you have there in Weenie - wasn't he just wonderful to get up there and comfort you during the storm. We bet that thundershirt would help you a lot.

And Weenie, we are so sorry about your poop issues. We bet one of your meds is what Phantom had to take. He had to do two rounds of it. He is much better now and he is eating some special canned prescription food to help his tummy. We sure hope you feel better soon.

We loved that story from Miss Ann - very touching.

Have a good week.

What an interesting week you've had! We are glad you went to the vet (even though no one wants to go there) because you did need to go and we hope you feel all better soon!! We have been busy guarding the house and protecting Mom and Dad from this scary monster they call the "vacuum". They broke the old one and went out and bought another one today. Why in the world would someone buy a monster?! Crazy! Anyhow, we did not know Mona's story and are sooooo glad she and Ms Sarah met up and she has a loving home now. We are also so glad that you two have each other. It is nice to have someone to protect you when the parents are away.
Have a great Monday!

ps- Thanks for the pressies!!

Hello Friends!!

Oh my you guys have had an interesting week!

Mona you look real cool in your hair cut! When will this hot weather end?? We are tired of it too.

Weenie, you did good for Mona! You are an excellent brother!

We sure hope you feel better Weenie. Us big girls had to go get squeezed at the vet Saturday morning. Then we both go baths cause of the stink. If they don't like the stink then they shouldn't squeeze us :)

We hope your mom is feeling good!

Stay cool friends!

Lots of Luv & Kisses

That was so sweet of Weenie to jump up on the chair and comfort you! I agree 100%, he really does love you!

I'm sorry Weenie's pooper shooter went out of control and that he has to take a bunch of meds for it. But your mom was smart to make that appt for him! Hope he's feeling better these days.
