MEET PILGRIM

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

Dearest friends,

Mommy is very sensitive right now and when shes a story about another dog suffering and in need, she just wants to sit down and cry. Please Meet Pilgrim, one of ATDR's seniors. Here is his story.

Copied directly from E-mail from Cindy Manning at ATDR volunteer.

He is certainly old enough to have been one of the originals! Pilgrim was in need of immediate medical attention when I pulled him for a local shelter. His right eye was bulging from built up pressure, you could smell him before you saw him and he had no idea where he was or who we were because he is totally blind and deaf. He has glaucoma in his right eye secondary to a major infection that is filling the eye cavity with pus so total removal of the right eye is necessary.

Out of her love for animals and her admiration for the ATDR group, a wonderfully kind veterinarian saw Pilgrim at no charge.

His teeth are critical. The odor coming from his mouth reeks from infection throughout his entire mouth. Complete full mouth extractions are required but not until he has been on some very heavy antibiotics for a week or so to reduce some of the infection in his gums. Hard food is out of the question as tartar and plaque are more than likely the only things holding his teeth in right now, not to mention the danger of severing the lower jaw. The chances of breaking the jaw during the removal of the teeth is possible because of how deep the infection goes into the bone.

Pilgrim is going to need pre and post blood profiles and he has not been heartworm tested yet which could open a whole new host of problems related to his health. He also has what appears to be a fatty lipoma on his chest, right between his front legs which needs removal. He is already neutered so that is one thing going for him.

Despite his many ailments and problems, Pilgrim is a sturdy, semi happy (considering his circumstances) old man. His coat is good, his weight is not terribly bad and his tail wags a mile a minute when he knows he is with someone.

Is he adoptable? No. Is he worth helping? Yes.

We all know that ATDR will always go the extra mile for one of its dogs and Pilgrim needs several of those extra miles right now.

What Pilgrim needs now are pledges from any and everybody to help ATDR cover the heavy costs that are in his near future.

Happy Thanks GIVING to all of you and may God bless.

Sarah, Mona's Mommy, here...........

We have been fighting for more than 5 months now to get Shelby healthy again and with your help we are almost there. BUT there are still so many dogs that need help and so many seniors are tossed away. So I'm begging again.

Please consider donating anything you can spare for ATDR to help PILGRIM. Mona & I will be making a donation in memory of my senior dachshund, Samantha, who went to the bridge in 2005.

Of course prayers will work too!!

What a great way to give thanks at this time of the year

.
 God Bless.....Sarah and Mona too!!

PS........We need pictures of you guys with flowers. We are stuck on "J". We found a great blog  with 2 collies named Josh and Jessie but we don't know them so Mommy don't want to just "borrow" them. So if anybody knows them ask them we could use their pictures. Our somebody with a "J" please send a picture.

I've got a theory that you can only help one dog at a time, but if everybody everywhere takes the time to help just one dog - any dog - they will all be helped. We are so glad your club didn't give up on Pilgrim.

You know evey time mommy hears of a dog who is suffering so much it is like a peice of her heart dies. and I and the other pups are the only ones who can revive it. In the end we grow closer. I will pray so hard for dear little Pilgrim. I am so sorry.

You have such a big heart. I wish I could donate but my unemployment ends at the end of the month. I still can't find a job and don't know how I'm going to pay my bills for December. I'll keep Pilgram in my prayers though.
