WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO AND A LOVE STORY

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

(Cactus Cupcakes "Bet you can't eat just one.")

"Kindness is difficult to give away, because it keeps coming back."

Hi dearest DWB family and friends,

Mommy is feeling much better, in her mind anyway. We was looking at some of the Spring Fling pictures and Mommy thought "Where would me and all those doggies be without being rescued?" I would probably be dead on the road in front of Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, where Shelley found me dodging traffic. It is too horrible to think of, and Mommy cries every time she thinks about what could have happened so less just think about today how happy I am.

Mommy wants to share 3 success stories of 3 little girls, all dachies but all so very different but truly loved by both the fosters that cared for them and their adoptive forever parents.

She also wants to share a love story about a dog named Lucky but first, we would like to give an update on Lovey and Daisy taken from the Facebook page of their foster Daddy and an e-mail received from Suzanne, (you've seen Mike and Suzanne, his wife on my blog before).

Mike...Vitamin C injections. Who would have thought. Crazy Daisy: Swelling gone, back to her bossy self. Lovey: Swelling almost gone, appetite is back times triplicate.

Suzanne....Lovey and Daisy are doing great. They are home now. They are still on medication and most of the swelling is gone. Please thank everyone for their concern and prayers....sent today at 1:01 pm.

A DOG NAMED LUCKY!

Mary and her husband Jim had a dog, Lucky. Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit they would warn them to not leave their luggage open because Lucky would help himself to whatever struck his fancy. Inevitably someone would forget and something would come up missing. Mary or Jim would go to Lucky's toy box in the basement and there the treasure would be, amid all of Lucky's favorite toys. Lucky always stashed his finds in his toy box and he was very particular that his toys stay in the box.

It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer. Something told her she was going to die of this disease...she was just sure it was fatal. She scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her shoulders. The night she before she to go in the hospital she cuddled with Lucky. A thought struck her...what would happen to Lucky? Although the 3 year old dog liked Jim her was Mary's dog through and through. If I die Lucky will be abandoned, Mary thought. He won't understand that I didn't want to leave him. The thought made her sadder than thinking of her own death.

The double mastectomy was harder on Mary than her doctors had anticipated and Mary was hospitalized for over two weeks. Jim took Lucky for his evening walk faithfully but the dog just drooped, whining and miserable. But finally the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When she arrived home, Mary was so exhausted she couldn't even make it up the stairs to her bedroom. Jim made is wife comfortable on the couch and left her to nap.

Lucky stood watching Mary but he didn't come to her when she called. It made Mary sad but sleep soon overcame her and she dozed. When Mary woke for a second she couldn't understand what was wrong. She couldn't move her head and her body felt heavy and hot. Panic soon gave way to laughter though when Mary realized the problem. She was covered, literally blanketed, in every treasure Lucky owned!

While she had slept the sorrowing dog had made trip after trip to the basement and back bringing his beloved mistress his favorite things in life. He had covered her with his love, Mary forgot about dying. Instead she and Lucy began living again, walking further and further together every night.

It's been 12 years now and Mary is still cancer-free. Lucky? He still steals treasures and stashes them in is toy box but Mary remains his greatest.

Live everyday to the fullest...because every day is a blessing from GOD!!

Of course you all know that Mommy is boo hooing even as she types this but crying is good for you cause it cleanses the soul. The love we share with people and they share with us can't be measured only lived.

Three little girls success stories.

TAMMY

This is Tammy with Brinda. You might remember both of them from the Spring Fling pictures we posted last weekend. She was available for adoption. Well she's not available any longer. Her adoption was finalized TODAY!!!

This is Tammy with her new Mom. She saw her new Mom for the first time that day. She was adopted because the family had just lost one of our dachshunds and had to fill the void in their lives.

TERESA'S LITTLE GIRL

At the Spring Fling, Mommy took a picture of this little girl and said she could sit on her butt forever without falling over. Mommy is so ashamed that she doesn't know her name but today she went to Mike's Facebook page and and next to the DROH intake coordinator's name, saw this picture. So now you can see her gorgeous little long haired self. Her Mom is also a failed foster like my Mommy is and we are both so glad they were failures.

ADDISON

The most touching story of them all. You might remember this precious little one from the Spring Fling pictures as well. She had cancer. She still has cancer. She was given 15 months to live. That was almost 4 years ago. Her adoptive parents have given her love and the highest quality of life.

And these little ones are the reason we do what we do and will always do no matter the heart break of losing one. Rescue and adopting a homeless dog is the only real the way to go and GOD is keeping track of his creatures and the folks that care for us.

Love, kisses and {{{huggies}}} to all.......Mona

I don't even know where to begin or even how to say thank you for doing what you do...but, thank you! I can't even begin to imagine the emotional toll this brings on you, you are one heck of a strong woman and you should be praised for that. You have given these doxies a second chance.
Thank you also for the updates on Lovey and Daisy. Oh and I am also glad you are a faiiled foster or we wod have never met Mona(this is the reason my husband won't "allow" us to foster).
