Good Bye Sweet Joanie

Dear friends,

It is with great sadness that we learned today of Joanie's passing. She put up a good fight but there was so much against her. From the first time we heard about this dear little girl our thought and prayers have with been with her but it wasn't to be. God needed another doggie angel to help him greet all the babies that have been lost to us. Mommy found a letter written by Dan Atcheson about the day his own doggie went to the bridge that says everything that Mommy wants to share. Joanie's life with All Texas Dachshund Rescue started in April of this year and ended all to soon but she will never be forgotten.

Here is the final update.......

Nov 1, 2009 - We have sad news to report. Our little Joanie passed away this morning. She died quietly and peacefully in the arms of her foster Mom. We are very saddened by this news and will post more information later. Please keep Joanie's foster parents, Cindy and Mike in your thoughts.

Do Dogs Go to Heaven?

My little bully passed away, no more to breathe a sound. I held him for the last time, then entombed him in the ground. Day and night I wept so much, in tears I thought I'd drown. I searched my soul for comfort, but no peace therein was found.

In great despair, I hit my knees and then began to pray."Father will I ever see, my dog again someday?" I raised my eyes and saw an angel standing near a gate. I sensed an inner peace I'd never felt before that day.

The angel smiled and said to me, "Oh man of little faith! God sees every bird that falls; He knows your bully's fate. I have met your little dog, I saw him pass my way.Your precious dog is still alive; he just walked through this gate.

Paradise is lovelier than you can comprehend. No pain or grief, no tears or fears, and life will have no end. God gave to man His only Son, to cover all his sins. So why would God withhold from you, your pure and loving friend?”

The angel took me by the hand and said, "Now come with me. A glimpse of paradise I'll give, to you so you can see."Through the gate and o'er the Rainbow Bridge we did proceed. Through green valleys filled with flowers, rolling hills and trees.

“Wow, so this is paradise!” The place was filled with joy. I saw my bully playing there, with dogs and cats and toys. He also had some doggie treats, and food that he enjoyed. He'd made a lot of new friends there, including girls and boys.

Then I saw a child come near, and hug my little mate. She said to him, "I love you so," and kissed him on the face. The angel said, "The child just crossed the Rainbow Bridge today. Now she needs a little friend, to love and help her play.

God’s love for her would be enough, in that make no mistake. But in His love, He knew full well, the child would want a mate. This is why God called your dog unto this splendid place. God's entrusted her with him, `til you pass through the gate."

I pleaded, “May I hug them both?!” The angel answered, “No! You’d violate a sacred site, and now it’s time to go.” He led me back across the Bridge and through the gate to home. He left me there with new-found hope and peace within my soul.

If someone ever asks what happens to a dog that dies, just give a gentle smile of joy and look them in the eye.Take their hand and comfort them and tell them not to cry. For dogs don’t die, they simply cross a bridge to paradise.

This is the way me and Mommy want to remember her, running free with all the precious little children, doggies, kitties, my sweet friend Jody and my big sister Samantha until we all meet again.

To everyone that has prayed for Joanie and helped with donations to help ATDR save her many, many thanks. God Bless you all.

A PRAYER FOR ANIMALS

Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals, especially for animals who are suffering; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to death. We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them we ask heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals and so to share the blessings of the merciful.

I am so glad I read your post right after I had to accept one beautiful horse to be putted down. I suffered so much, but now, reading your beautiful story and the prayer - I feel much better. It is so hard to let them go, even if you are aware that for they it might be better that way. We still remain here and we miss them so much. I do hope too one day to see all the beautiful friends we lost.
May your Sweet Joanie find a young child to tell her " I love you".

She was such a fighter. We are very thankful that she was with her family that loved her and did so much for her. All our prayers are with her family.

I LOVE that picture of her with those pups. Joanie is a Doxie that will never be far from my mind. We should all show such strength and be thankful for every minute of every day.

Oh, how sad. She tried so hard and so many tried to help her. At least we know she was well loved in her last few months. Now she is happy and running free with all the others over the Rainbow Bridge. We bet Dakota greeted her with a big woo woo when she came.

Hugs, the OP Pack

Such mixed feelings after reading this. Sad to hear Joanie's left. But relieved to know that she's free from pain now. And comforted in knowing that she has been much loved in her last days.

Run free, Joanie.

We are sad to hear of her passing but happy to know she passed in her foster momma's arms not in a shelter. Thankfully the DROH was able to help this little girl live her last few days out in peace!

Keep up rescuing!!!
