QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"Most people walk in and out of your life.......but FRIENDS leave footprints in your heart."

NOAH'S ARK

Everything I need to know, I learned from Noah's Ark .

ONE: Don't miss the boat.

TWO: Remember that we are all in the same boat!

THREE: Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.

FOUR: Stay fit. When you're 60 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.

FIVE: Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.

SIX: Build your future on high ground.

SEVEN: For safety's sake, travel in pairs.

EIGHT: Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.

NINE: When you're stressed, float awhile.

TEN: Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.

ELEVEN: No matter the storm, when you are with God, there's always a rainbow waiting.

Hi dear friends,

Sorry we haven't been around in a few days but Mommy has been sick and has missed work for the last two days. She NEVER misses work so I am worried. She had a fever for 2 days, its gone now and she says she is going to work tomorrow but she is still very weak. Mommy is not a very fun person to be around when she doesn't feel well. She hasn't wanted to play and only wants to sleep and of course I've had to cuddle with her to make her feel better. The things we have to do for our peeps. Maybe if I could rub her belly, like she does mine, it would help. Oh well, it has been nice having her home with just me. She wasn't too sick to miss "Dancing with the the Stars" last night. Go Kelly Go!!

So much has happened since we last posted. I got to see my honey, Sammy, on Saturday and it was such a surprise. Mommy had to got to the dentist Saturday and then Aunt Tina & Chris wanted to have a cookout at their house and asked us to come. So off we went. Mommy knew that Jackie and Kathy, ladies they all used to work with at Christus would be there and then guess what? In comes a bunch of dogs with a lady in a purple Texas A & M t-shirt. At first Mommy wondered who it was until she saw Maggie, Sammy's cousin. WOW!!! Roxie, Sammy, Andy, Maggie and Jake.......every doggie & Aunt Mary too!!! They came all the way from Benchley to spend the afternoon with me. Of course, I guess they came to visit with Mommy and Aunt Tina too. Mommy introduced Mary to Tina through Facebook Labor Day weekend and they have been Farming and Mafia Waring ever since. There was more dogs than peeps there....10 in all but that is the way it should be right? If Aunt Judy and her gang had been able to come there would have been 14 of us.

And just what was my other doggies friends, George, Harley, Bandit and Brooklyn, and my Aunt Judy doing while all this parting was going on. Some of the DROH volunteers were giving the kissing booth a facelift and we already had plans and missed out. Just who uses the kissing booth the most, I ask you?

OK....so that I can understand but look what happened. Paula was still celebrating her birthday, for a whole week, and look what Bandit did!!!

Mommy was shocked and crushed. Bandit actually was kissing Paula. He never kisses anybody but Aunt Judy. Paula said it was the lipstick he was trying to lick off. Well he better kiss my Mommy on her birthday in January or he will hear from me.

But then Mommy got these pictures of my brother, Peanut aka Pee Daddy, from my Uncle Ron and all was forgiven. Isn't he the most handsome black dog you have ever seen?

There isn't a whole lot me or Mommy could ever say about Ron and Deb except that they are the heart and soul of Dachshund Rescue of Houston. Every one was very sad when they moved to Putnam, Texas but it didn't change anything. At the farm they have horses, goats, cats and last time we heard 14 or 17 dogs, who really knows. Because of their devotion to DROH many of our dogs would not have the home they now enjoy.

Below is a link to the Farm. The handsome dude is my Uncle Ron and the pretty lady is Aunt Deb. Mommy picked Peanut out right away......duh....he is still her baby even if he doesn't live with us.

Last night when Mommy was fighting the fever, Meredith sent this picture of Bradley. He doesn't like t0 be cold and was snuggling in. He has always been special to Mommy and I kinda like him too. Mommy says her temp went down 10 degrees when she saw his picture.

OK, enough addling on. Now for the most important part of this post. It's that time of the year again. We gotta get busy raising money f0r DROH and we need your help. In these hard economic times, we are scrambling. December 31 is right around the corner and we have a long way to go. Please consider helping dogs like the 14 -17 at the farm, Bradley (you've all heard his story many times before), the 31 available for adoption, the ten receiving care (included Travis), the five forever fosters and all the pups to come. It never really end!!

Great news for Dachshund Rescue of Houston! The Barnard Foundation has awarded us a $7500 grant AND they have another $7500 for us. There's a catch, though, the additional $7500 is a challenge grant - we need to raise $15,000 by the end of the year in order to receive the additional money. Please help us meet the challenge - donations can be made on our website - www.dachshundrescueofhouston.org. Big thanks to DRoH alums Sable & Dolly (and their adopted family) who make these grants possible!

Hi Mona,

Sorry to hear that your poor mummy isn't feeling well!! I am sure you do a fine job of cuddling with her and making her feel comfortable. I am sure looking at your cute lil' face should bring her temperature down a little too!

Aww.. Peanut is a real cutie too...
