HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANNY & COLDS/SWINE FLU

QUOTE OF THE DAY: (courtesy of Sadie) @ http://saderpix.blogspot.com/

"Children and dogs are as necessary to the welfare of the country as Wall Street and the railroads."
--- Harry Truman

Hi friends,

Today my Granny would be 96 years old today if she was still alive. Mommy got up earlier than usual this morning and told me all about her Mama. Granny loved children, dogs and flowers, almost as much as she loved her children. That's why Mommy picked today's quote of the day. So I'm gonna tell you 3 things Mommy told me today about her. She was quite a woman and she misses her a lot. I wish I could have know her.

Roses for my Granny.

Granny loved all kind of flowers, especially pink roses. She had the most fantastic rose bushes all along the right side of the house on Huldy street. After my Grampa died, she had to sell her house and move closer to her girls because she had renal failure and needed her girls to help care for her. The girls found a house that is on the same street that Aunt Pam lived on and so Granny bought it. Mommy's little sister who lived with her, took care Granny Monday through Friday. Aunt Pam & Mommy took care of her on the weekends. Granny missed her roses and her church the most when she had to move. You've heard that Mommy was engaged, a hundred years ago, to Jeong Kim who was a florist. Jeong was an orphan and when he met my Granny, she became his Mama too. Sometimes Mommy thinks he loved Granny more than he loved her. Every time he came to see Mommy, he would have flowers for Granny. She said she wanted flowers while she was alive not after she died and so Jeong made sure she got lots of them. When Granny died, in 1986, Jeong made her casket cover totally out of pink roses.

And then there was the children. My Granny had the kindest heart and was the sweetest person in the world. Long before anybody even heard of foster care, Granny had a house full of children and only 4 of them were her girls. Anybody on Huldy street that needed someone to look after their children took them to MOMMA RICCA. My Mommy was just a little girl when Granny took her first foundling in. Some stayed overnight only, some for days, months, years and some never left. Mommy said there was a huge bedroom at the back of the house, that you walked into and there were beds against every wall with just enough room to get to the beds. Mommy said there was many a night that she went to bed by herself and woke up with 2 other kids in bed with her. It was wonderful!!

And then there was Fuzzy, who was born the same day Mommy was. Granny loved that dog the most, after her girls. Remember the story about Fuzzy and how many times she saved Mommy's life and protected her when she got into mischief. Mommy said that Granny was so thankful to Fuzzy for being a part of our family. Fuzzy died when Mommy was 19 years old. After that there was Heidi, and then a series of strays after her and of course, Great Grandpa's dog Gizmo, a dachshund. I wish Granny had been alive when Samantha and I came along. I hear that she was known to sneak a treat or two every night for her strays. My kind of woman....not stingy like my Mommy.

Happy Birthday Granny!!! with love from Mona and Angel Samantha

OK dear friends, thanks so much for hearing us out....again.

Before we leave, Mommy has something she wants to share with all the Mommies, Daddies and their human children. Please be careful this year and take the flu shot cause us doggies don't wanna get sick from kissing all over you. Today employee health gave out this information to all of the staff at St Joseph Medical Center. Mommy got the flu shot yesterday. One good thing about working at a hospital is that you get all kinds of shots for fee. I hate shots!!

That is a great info on what to look for during the flu season. Mom doesn't do the flu shot. Never has. She may get the swine one when it comes out in October is possible.

Momma is so lucky because they give her a flu shot right at her work place and she doesn't have to remember to do it. I will work on getting the Master prepared.

It is good to remember those who are no longer here. They are still with us.

Hi, Mona!
Thanks for sharing your Granny's story with us! I am sure she was an amazing person.
Here, people have to wait until the swine shot comes out in October.
Doctors say the normal one for flu is useless right now.
Take care
Kisses and hugs

Hee hee. We had mom home all last week because she had the flu! It's been almost 2 weeks now and she's STILL not all better.

It was great having mom home, but it was SO BORING! That lazy bean did NOTHING. UGH! And she wouldn't even let us lie all over her like usual because she felt too icky. What gives?!! She LOVES 50lbs of warm cocker spaniel bodies on her tummy!!

Dogs, make your people get that shot!
