JOANIE UPDATE FROM 07/08/09

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "Dogs require loving attention, but they give back more than they
receive." -- Dorothy Hinshaw Patent

Hi friends,

Today Mommy went to see if there was any news on our dear sweet Joanie, that so many in the DWB community and the world have been praying will survive the horrible condition she was found in. There was an update done today so Mommy wants to share it and the new pictures with all of you.

The Vet says Joanie is a standard and, we think, black/tan dachshund. The book says she should weight 18 pounds plus. The picture below is of one of DROH's available for adoptions males....his name is EDDY. This is the way, we hope and pray, she will look someday.

JOANIE UPDATE JULY 8, 2009

July 8, 2009 - This update comes from Joanie's foster mom. "Joanie has been on pancreatic enzymes for a little over a week now. She's been very interested in eating, along with getting up and around more. She has varied her menu and is dining on two different brands of kibble, Wellness still seeming to be her favorite. The dry food is down all the time for her, and 3 times a day she also gets her serving of wet food with the enzymes mixed in. She recently took possession of a huge dog bed – it actually belongs to one of my Lab rescues, but she found it one day and has made it her own. The center pillow has been replaced by one of her favorite comforters though, because she was having a tough time burying herself under that big pillow! It stays under the desk in the office, right next to the computer station and she can peek out and check on me periodically. She had lost a little weight, but is back up to 8.5 pounds. Her first rib, closest to her chest, is almost gone from sight! We continue the Winstrol only once a day now and just this week when I had the Vet call in a refill for her, the young lady at Veterinary Pharmacies of America said that the owner had read her story and was so touched by what we were doing for her that he instructed them to refill Joanie's prescription at no charge!"

She has come a long way but still has a very, very long way to go but with so many supporting her, both with prayers and donations, Mommy says she is sure she will make it and maybe someday be running & playing just like Eddy does. If you look closely at the pictures, you can see just what her foster Mom says "her first rib, closest to her chest, is almost gone from sight". Pawsome News!!!
May God bless and keep her in the palm of his hand.
Love, kisses and {{{Huggies}}}......Mona & the Mommy

It makes my heart happy to see a pup with a full belly! Way to lick that bowl clean wee Joanie! Keep up the good feasting and the feisty attitude that earned you a mondo-sized bed.

OMGosh! That poor baby! It's been a while since we've visited and we hadn't heard about Joanie. We are so very happy that she is getting the care that she needs and is getting better and better, and now we will also add our prayer for her!

My Mom has rescued a few horses that were in that condition, and we know how hard she worked to keep them alive and to get them better! She's told us about one little Shetland pony that couldn't even stand when he was found, but once she and her friends got him into good shape, she had Babe for 25 years. I was still very young when he went to the Rainbow Bridge, but he looked like a miniature black stallion and was really smart and did tricks even though he was pretty old by then.

Mom cried and cried when she saw these pictues, but she was so glad that Joanie is under good, loving care, and she just loved looking at all the Doxie pics as we caught up on your country trip, etc. She'd always had Doxie/Chihuahua mixes before she got my Daddy and Mama. Thank you for caring! OC
