GOODBYE SWEET DAKOTA & MIKEY UPDATE

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

(courtesy of Kylie)

"It is a strange thing, love. Nothing but LOVE has made the dog lose his wild freedom, to become the servant of man."

----D. H. Lawrence

Hi dear friends,

Today we learned that sweet beautiful Dakota has left for the bridge, with the help and support of her Mom & Dad. Our hearts are broken for her family. The decision to let her go had to be hard and Mommy understands because she had to let Samantha go when the pain was too great. Dakota will be missed by all of the DWB community. Mommy is sure she is with Samantha at the bridge right now and they are both running pain free with all our sweet pups that left us too soon. The night sky is brighter with a new star named Dakota.

Aunt Judy sent Mommy some pictures of Mikey's new family and we wanted to share them with you but first here is a picture of them when she was saying goodbye. Aunt Judy said she cried when she got in the car to go home. This pic was taken in the backyard of his new home in front of the swimming pool. Yes that's right he gots a pool of his own.

This is his new Mom, Dad and two sisters.

And this is Belle, who might very soon be his new sister. She is gorgeous!! She is a black and tan silver dapple.

Now for a lesson on why dogs like squeaky toys. Somebody sent this to Mommy and she said it makes sense to her. What do you think?

Dogs just love toys that squeak. I've heard this from dog owners over and over again. For example, some dogs will go crazy for their squeaky toys until they actually chew them up and pull out the squeaker. After the toy no longer squeaks - they no longer want to play with it. This is common. So why do dogs like toys that squeak? Our theory goes back to nature. When dogs hunted for prey, they would hunt and kill. Their prey would squeak or make noises, which allowed the dogs to find their prey. This was part of their natural hunting instinct. Once caught, the prey makes noises as they proceed with the kill, which can be very satisfying to a hungry dog. A squeaky toy can give a dog the same type of satisfaction. In addition, toys gives dogs interaction that stimulates their mind, keeps them busy and satisfies their chewing instinct.

Whoever wrote this might be right but that doesn't explain why me and my brothers loved to play with the carcasses after our animal stuffies died.

Mommy also got this little puzzle that might be fun to try. Somebody figured it out in 43 seconds. The average time is about 2 minutes. It only took her 5 minutes and at that she cheated. Give it a try.

Some dogs like the squeek, but I am with you, voiceless stuffies are just as much fun.

We would love to be part of your sleepy post. Momma has it on her list to send you some photos this weekend. I hope that's not too late.

Yup, you can borrow the photo of our most lovely selves.

Hi, Mona & Mommy...

I love my toys to squeak...

I don't know if I would play with them or not if they didn't squeak anymore, cuz I never hurt them...

I still have the first stuffie my Mom got me when I was a baby...And, she still squeaks...

Hi pretty Mona,
Are you keeping cool in this 100 degree heat wave we are having? I sure hope so.

We are so very sad about Dakota. It is comforting to know that she had such a great life with her family and is running free and painless now. We just pray her family finds some strength now.

Mom really hopes we can meet up at the dog park when this weather gets better. By that time she might have a stroller for Lilly and then we all three can come along!

My girls don't play with toys whether they squeak or not. But both my sister's dog and my ex's basset both love squeak toys.

Yay on Mikey and Bella getting such a great home!!

It just broke my heart to hear about Dakota's passing.

We love our squeaky toys but work rather diligently at de-squeaking them.

Thank you, Mona and Mommy. Your quote with its reference to love says it best. Dakota had so much love to give and she was well-loved too. Thank you for remembering her.

The puzzle took Mom 1:01. We love squeakies. Some of us play with the carcasses after the squeakie is out but some of us only like the toy when it squeaks.

Do you need any sleepy pictures from us? We think you already have the best one.
