"May each day be a window through which you see what is possible." ----
Inspired by Japanese poetry
Hi dear friends,
After the scary start we had to 2009, the Mommy was so excited when we got up for the last time this morning and saw the above picture my Uncle Ron sent of him and my brother Pea Daddy, formally Peanut. Now that is a picture of a contented and well loved dog. It brought home what rescue is all about, because if Uncle Ron & Aunt Deb hadn't taken him he would be dead now. Isn't he one of the most handsome black dogs you have every seen?
Before we go on to the animal pictures from my visit to the country, I'll let the Mommy tell you what happened this morning.
The Mommy.....
We went to bed around 10 pm last night because I knew the fireworks would go off at midnight & that would be the end of sleeping for a couple of hours. Well they started long before midnight and went on until around 12:45 am, when we finally went to bed. At 4am both me and Mona were snoring away, when I heard pounding on the front door (our door bell is broken. Mona started barking and I jumped out of bed and ran to the front door. The pounding kept on and I looked through the peephole and saw a man holding a bottle on the porch step and and a car with it's lights on and a door open in front of our house. I didn't open the door but I did call my neighbor, Roland, who is a police officer and he said he'd be right over. When Roland got here, with his gun in his hand & police jacket on, the jerk stopped pounding on the door and dropped his bottle. He was drunk and he said that his girlfriend said she was coming to our house when she ditched him at the party where he had been drinking. What a jerk and what a jerk she was giving him our address!! Roland told him to find another girl friend and get out of the neighborhood. Roland told him unless he wanted to be arrested he better go sleep it off somewhere and suggested he go to the Walgreen's parking lot around the corner. He was weaving around so much and couldn't drive so Roland drove the drunk to the parking lot and then had his wife bring him back home. Roland and Norma are such good people and such good friends, that I knew he would take care of things. I don't think the jerk will ever forget this New Years day and for sure won't be back.
Mona.......
Me and the Mommy were both scared and all the barking I didn't scare the man away, so GOD BLESS Roland!!!
The Mommy.......
Before I turn this post back to Mona, I want to share a couple of pictures and talk about the subject near & dear to my heart....Rescue.
This is what we see in the country, that's why we stay outside so much when we are there. There is nothing like this in the city.
At lunch one day, while Mary was making our lunch I started reading an article about that nasty man, Michael Vick. These are a lot of HBO words, I could use for this man but I don't like to talk or think in four letter words. The story was about what has become of the bit bull dogs that were but through so much torture. Remarkably quite a few have been rehabilitated and one has even become a therapy dog. If you'd like to read the article and see some of the dogs and the good families that have adopted them or see where the rest are, it was in Sports Illustrated.
Mona...of course none of us doggies got any except Roxie, cause she jumped in the Mommy's lap & stole a couple of Fritos off her lap...it's not fair...Roxie is the only one of us that can jump really high!!
Now one last rescue story for 2008. Jersey Village Vet Clinic called DROH Tuesday to ask if we could take in a 4 week old unweened girl puppy. Of course we said yes. They had been feeding her formula in a bowl. The puppy's Mama, apparently wasn't taking care of her and might have killed one of the her other puppies. It is very difficult to raise a unweened puppy but we found a foster who was willing to foster her. He works from home, has adopted from us before and said he can care for her without a problem. He picked her up yesterday at noon and hopefully we will have a picture of her soon. I'm not sure what she will be named yet.....the foster always get to pick the names of the new dogs brought into there homes. AGAIN!!! from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank everybody involved in rescue....God has a special place in heaven or at the bridge for you.
Mona....
Now back to my Christmas visit. Us dachsies took a lot of time barking at them cow dogs and there were even a few calves this time.
This is where and what the cows was doing across the road from where I was roaching in the cow poop. Them black piles laying around are cow patties...very stinky and exciting to roach in. The Mommy said she can't imagine that pioneers burned poop for fuel.
This little calf &
this one was watching me
and Big Daddy Bull didn't like it when they started walking toward me. That's why the Mommy got so scared. I promised I'd never run into the pasture again. Really!!
There were lots & lots of birdies like these all over the power lines in Bryan when the Mommies went to buy a new mailbox but none of them ever flew anywhere. Maybe they was all frozen. Why don't them birdies get electrocuted when they sit on those electric lines....does anybody know? Us doggies only saw a few birds pecking around the leaves where we where.
While we was in the country we saw lots of horses and even a donkey.
The Mommy loves horses just as much as she does dachsies but there is no place to keep one at our house in Houston. Someday ya gotta get the Mommy to tell you about when she got kicked in the head by a mule and what she was doing at the time......he he he.....it is quite a story!!

It's so sad that not every dog is saved but we hope that someday that won't be the case and that all dogs will have loving homes! I wanted to send you my snow pictures but I can't seem to find your email address! Happy New Year!
