A RESCUE STORY

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
"Until he extends his circle of compassion to include all living things, man will not himself find peace." ----
Dr Albert Schweitzer
Hi dear friends,
All of you know how the Mommy feels about rescue and the people who do whatever they can do to help any animal is distress. Sometimes the Mommy gets so angry when she hears about puppy mills and how you close one down and the next day you find another one in it's place. Life is so unfair!! My Aunt Judy found a rescue story that the Mommy wants to share with you. It made the Mommy cry. You'll see why when you read it. It is called: I Rescued A Human Today.
Her eyes met mine when she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too
exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.
As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.
As she read the kennel card, I hoped she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someones life.
She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed by neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised by paw to assure her that all would be well.
Soon my kennel door was opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.
I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I saved one.
I rescued a human today!!
The Mommy's eyes have been leaking the whole time she was typing this story for me. Even though I am dreaming of a White Christmas, the Mommy's dreams are that no doggie or kitty cat will ever have to suffer again. There is a saying that goes something like this: Being left behind is the saddest feeling a dog can have. The motto of DROH is Saving one dachshund at a time until there are none. Some day we hope DROH will be no more but as long as some people act they way they do, we will never give up and never stop praying and dreaming.
Sorry to be so glummy at this festive time of the year but the Mommy has been thinking about my brothers and missing them alot. When she had to give them up, she knew they would be going to taken care of by the best poeple in the world and would find good homes again....at least we think they had a good home with us. God Bless everybody involved in rescue, as we know many of our DWB parents are.
Tomorrow the Mommy has a special surprise for all of you so you gotta come by tomorrow and check it out. It's about my snow post.
Love, kisses & huggies to all......Mona
