HAPPY NEW YEAR & THE BONFIRE

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"Where we are in life is not as important as what direction we're heading."
Hi dear friends,
As 2008 comes to a close, me & the Mommy would like to wish all are DWB friends a Happy & Prosperous New Year. Here's hoping that 2009 is kinder to all of us than 2008 has been. We have lost so many loved ones, both human and animal, this year but we are happy to know that they have all gone to a better place than we are, either at the bridge or in heaven and that we will all see then again in time.
Since there will be a lot of fireworks going off all night after dark, the Mommy decided we would share pictures from the bonfire (actually burning trash) we had in the country with Dachsies Rule. The Mommy loves watching fireworks in a controlled environment, not in the middle of town. It is against the law in Houston to set off fireworks within city limits but that doesn't stop the crazy peoples from doing it anyway. The Mommy will be awake at midnight to make sure our house doesn't catch on fire. The Mommy said if the house did catch on fire all she would grab is me and run.

This is where we had the trash burning ( our bonfire). It is in the fire pit in front of the garden....long since dead now. It was really cold and the Mommies had their coats on while they tended to the fire and kept us away from it. It was nice and toasty by the fire.

The Mommy had never participated in a bonfire before, so my Aunt Mary showed her how you go about it. It must be done properly and you must have a hose on hand, just in case, at all times. You have to watch the fire to make sure it doesn't get out of hand.
First you start off by putting little twigs and branches in the pit and start the fire.

Then you flame the fire by putting some more branches on it.

Then you add the trash and stoke the fire.

Then you make sure the fire is burning everything.

Then you make sure all the fire is in the pit.

Then you sit back and watch the fire to make sure no sparks fly anywhere and yell at us doggies when we get too close.
Then you make sure to watch it burn done, while you keep yelling at us to get away from the fire.

Then when it's almost out you throw dirt on it to make sure the fire is all gone.

Then you go inside, turn the heater way up and thaw out....to bad the Mommies don't have fur coats like us....he he he!!! Aunt Mary says that how it's done!!

This pile of wood was by the cemetery when we got to the country. Now that would have been a bonfire to remember but a fire truck would have had to stand by it we burned it.

Besides being hollered at for being under foot, us doggies just sniffed around checking everything out.

Me hiding in the bushes.

Me & Sammy poking around.

Me checking out the hose.

Aunt Mary's legs & us

Me (the Mommy's loves the way I'm holding my paw up)

Andy's butt (he's bowlegged)

Well that's all for tonight. Tomorrow the Mommy is gonna do a post about all the animals we saw on this trip to the country and share a final rescue story for 2008 about a four week old dachshund puppy DROH took in yesterday.
HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!!!!!!!

Love, kisses & huggies to all....Mona & the Mommy too!!

Happy New Year!!!

I hope you don't hear too many fireworks. What surprised us the most when we moved to Texas was that people shoot their guns in the air at Midnight! Now that is CRAZY!

We stay home on New Years Eve where we are safe and sound!

Enjoy yourself sweetie!
Kisses
