SAD NEWS

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"No man can be condemned for owning a dog. As long as he has a dog, he has a friend; and the poorer he gets, the better friend he has." -- Will Rogers

Hi dear friends,

Yesterday the family was told that My Aunt Annie has cancer and that it has spread everywhere. Chemotheraphy is not an option at this point. Even if she could have any kind of surgery she would not survive because of the condition of her lungs. Everything is shutting down. She has been given 3 months and will be moved to a Hospice facility, if she survives the lung problems she has. She has been aspirating and can't can't drink any water because X-rays show water going into her lungs. The the lung doctor says that her breathing will get worse and worse and she will become combative and that we won't be able to handle her. It's not fair! This is a woman that has always been very soft spoken (not like the rest of the Ricca women), kind and loving to everyone, her whole life. All her life, she took care of her brother, my Uncle Bennie and her Daddy, my great grandfather, plus 40 years working for Frito Lay and still had time for the Mommy and all her other 11 God children. It's just not fair! She was Samantha's bestest friend while she lived with the Mommy and was my besest friend when I was adopted into the family. Yesterday when the Mommy and 5 of her girl cousins (Aunt Annie is Godmother to all of them), she was laughing and acting silly with all of them. It isn't fair! How can one day you look and act like you are at death's door and the next be cracking jokes with the X-ray technician when he asked if there was any chance she could be pregnant? BTW she told him yes she was and it was going to be a boy named DOOFUSS, because we are all Doofusses. BTW she is 82 years old. The doctor says, that to be thankful that she will have a few good days left. When the Mommy's Mommy was dying she watched her struggle breathing and now to have to watch this happen again is too hard. It isn't fair! God forgive the family and this may sound cold hearted but we would rather her die now than suffer. It just isn't fair but then who ever said that life was fair.

Anyway, the Mommy knows this post is very depressing but she felt like she could open her heart up to all our DWB friends and cry her eyes out where nobody can see her. So we are going to show you a funny little video of me playing & roaching with a little flower with a bumble bee, remember we are supposed to stay away from bees) that my Aunt Annie gave me once. The Mommy has never let me have it before but last night she said I could have it now becuase Aunt Annie wanted me to be able to play with it. It even plays a little tune. They Mommy is going to take desktop take it to the hospital & show it to My Aunt Annie tomorrow.
One last thought. Everybody is still upset about the sell of the hospital but the Mommy said she had more things to worry about than the sale. She is sick and tired of some people crying wolf and trying to make matters worse. Her hospital has been around for 128 years in Houston and the Mommy has worked there for 41 years, except for the 8 months she stayed with the old owner, and she doesn't plan on going anywhere. The Mommy wants to share something that was said by an associate where she works in an Open Forum. The Mommy said it was inspiring.
"Sometimes we go through life and complain about things we can't change in our lives when in reality we are blessed. We have to be thankful that we can see, hear, talk and walk. Most of all that we have jobs and we can survive through hard times. When I worry that my son is in Afghanistan serving his country, I am thankful that he is not in jail or running the streets. When I worry that gas prices are sky high, I am thankful that I have a car to fill up. When I worry that I have to much going on at once, I am thankful that I can multitask. When I worry we have to go through another sale, I am thankful that we are not closing. God bless us all."

Thanks my friends.......Love Mona & the Mommy too!!

Mona we are sorry about your Aunt Annie. We do not think it is awful that you would say you would rather she didn't suffer.
On a more upbeat note if your doofus mom has been working somewhere for 41 years does that make her about 356?
Oh and we know we are a few hours away but if you guys ever need anything please let us know
