Samantha's Barkday, Pea Daddy and Baby Velcro

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"A dog's warmth provides the friendliest blanket."

*****************************************

Hi my friends,

The Mommy has been a little blue the last few days for a couple of reasons. Her cousin, Jack, who is 5 years younger than her, has decided after 4 years on kidney dialysis that he has had enough. He has chosen to stop dialysis and he will die. The Mommy's Mommy choose to do the same thing 22 years ago and the Mommy is still haunted by the memories . The other is that my big sister, Samantha, will have been 18 years old this Sunday. I know that the Mommy loves me and misses & loves my brothers too, but Samantha was a very special little girl. She came to the Mommy at 8 weeks old and her Uncle Benny, also her godfather, went with her to pick Samantha up from the breeder and he and Samantha became best friends for the rest of his life....he died in 1992 when Samantha was just 2 years old. When he turned 65, he had a mild heart attack and the company he worked for made him retire before he was ready. It made him feel worthless and useless. So the Mommy told him if he would like to dogsit Samantha every day while she was at work he could. He did, of course, and for the next year and a half, he did just that.

He and Samantha were a team and spent every minute of the day together. The whole family knew without her companionship, he would stay in bed until he died.
When he got very sick and had to be hospitalized, he too gave up, wouldn't eat and would hardly even talk to anyone but the Mommy. Since he was in the same hospital she worked at, she would stay until late every night to try to get him to try to eat but nothing worked. Something had to be done, so the Mommy did something she could have been fired from the hospital for....and she would do it again in a New York minute...she wrapped Samantha in a blanket like a baby & sneaked her into the hospital in a doctor's only elevator. When the Mommy got into the room, she uncovered Samantha and his face lit up like a Christmas tree. Samantha kept him alive for longer than anybody thought he ever would, just by coming to see him everyday. The Mommy did finally get permission to bring Samantha into the hospital and before Uncle Benny died, everybody that needed cheering up got to visit with her. This was long before hospitals realized that pets came bring so much comfort to seriously ill people. Before anyone that even heard of therapy dogs, the Mommy would take Samantha with her to visit nursing home residents in the parish where she went to church. She was quite a dog.

He loved that little doggie so much and the Mommy loved him. When he died, he took a piece of the Mommy's heart with him but she had Samantha and as long as she had Samantha she was fine. When Samantha died in January 2005, she lost the other piece of her heart and she too was ready to die. Dr Ainsworth, my vet, told the Mommy that even though Samantha was her whole life, there was lots of other doggies like Samantha that needed good homes. That's when the Mommy got me, then Jacks, then Siskle, then Toby, then Peanut and became a foster Mommy for DROH. So you see now why Samantha was such as special little girl, an angel on earth with 4 paws, the Mommy says.

But there is some good news that has perked the Mommy up. My bestest friend, Jody, who you've all see & heard about from my blog is coming to stay a WHOLE 7 DAYS with us starting Monday. I am soooooooooooo excited. There will lots of pictures taken while he is here with us, I wonder how he will deal with that stupid camera pointed at him all the time!!

The other news came this morning in a e-mail from Ron and Deb, the human angels on earth that we have talked about many times and was in that stupid little video with me that we posted once, lots and lots of pictures of my brother Peanut, now called Pea Daddy. The Mommy said we just had to share his pictures (5 of many) so everybody could see how happy he is with Ron, Deb and his 13 bothers and sisters..........yes that is right, 14 dogs in all!!

This is the dog that nobody could handle when the Mommy had to give him up a year and a half ago. This is the dog that 5 fosters said was vicious and thought he should be put down. Uncle Ron ( that's what I call him) told everybody NO WAY!! and that it kill the Mommy if they did. Peanut was placed on the forever foster list and Ron took him in. The rest is history. Peanut's new name is now Pea Daddy and Ron and Pea Daddy, are inseparable.

The handsome boy licking his nose is my brother, Pea Daddy. He always gave lots of kisses to the Mommy.

This is a side profile of his handsome self.....he is handsome, don't ya think girls?

These last 3 pictures, are all his brothers and sisters, except Joy who was in the house when the pictures were taken and all of which are dachshunds except for 3 of them. They are in no particular order, ROCKY, ARNOLD, TEDDY, SIMON, SIMOME, BLU, MIGGY, JASMINE, PEBBLES, BAM BAM, RHODES and RANDY.

All of them were dogs that were adoptable for various reasons, some with physical problems and some with emotional problems due to the lives they led before they came to DROH. Ron and Deb live in Putnum Texas in the country now that Deb has retired and they have about 5 acres of land, so everybody can run to their hearts content.

Does my brother look vicious to any of you.....? I don't think so!! Thats him in the middle of the pack.

Now comes the bad news again and it's all my fault. I am very ashamed and sorry for what I did to Baby Velcro. See how cute and cuddly she was before I killed her?
Well the Mommy decided to stitch her butt closed and brought her back to life...it was a miracle, I got Baby Velcro back!!

But when the Mommy got home tonight, this is what she found. Yes, I did it again. This time I riped all her guts out and the Mommy says no amount of butt stitching will work this time. So now I have still have Baby Velcro, but she is now a carcass. Between me and when my brothers were still here, I have lots of carcasses to play with.

OK, dear friends, I'm sure you are all pretty tired by now of my long winded post but I just wanted everybody to understand the Mommy a little bit. She is a strange Doofuss, but I still love her and Samantha too because I wouldn't be here if Samantha hadn't been the first.
Hope everybody has a wonderful weekend.........Love, kisses & hugs all around......Mona & the Mommy too!!
