Remembering Samantha

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
"If I have any beliefs about immortality, it is that certain dogs I have known will go to heaven, and very , very few persons" --- James Thurber
******************************************
Hi dear friends,
Today would have been Samantha's 18th birthday, and me and the Mommy have been having had a wonderful day reminiscing about my big sister. I am proud to say that the Mommy has not been crying once today.....YET!!
This morning, we got up very late.....well on the weekend it's late for us.....at
9 am and the first thing the Mommy did was pull me into her arms before we were even out of bed and told me it was Samantha's birthday and because I was her baby now, she was gonna spoil me today. of course I love to be spoiled so we got to it real quick. She gave me some of my favorite treats, some chicken strips, and then let me have one of my cherry cobbler Healthy Deserts. Then she put on a video of a movie called THE BEAR. The movie is about a little bear cub, whose Mommy is killed hunting honey bees when a dead tree falls on her. The main theme of the movie is this little cub and a huge grizzly bear that was injured that the little cub licks his wounds and they become a family. Most grizzly bear males kill cubs, so this was miracle. The things these 2 bears go through are amazing. It is a real tear jerkier, The Mommy gets weepy eyes whenever she sees it. OK....so she did cry today but that doesn't count cause she loves this movie.
Why do you ask why would the Mommy watch this movie? Samantha loved to watch TV, anything on the Animal Planet, so the Mommy would leave the TV on for her while she was at work. Whenever a dog would bark, Samantha would bark right back. One day the Mommy bought this movie called THE BEAR because she loves anything to do with nature. She was watching the movie for the first time and Samantha sat in front of the TV watching it with her and never moved a muscle. So this is probably the Mommy's favorite movie because it is a perfect example of true love and devotion.
Because I am the Mommy's new, and very cherished, little girl, I liked it too. I identified with that poor little cub that was homeless and was rescued by an unlikely source. Just so everybody will know why I identified with this little cub, it is because were it not for DROH, I too would have died on the streets of Houston just as the little cub was by this grizzly bear.
So today we was looking for some pictures of Samantha from when she was a baby....The Mommy says she was cute as a button....but she couldn't find them but look what she did find. Please don't laugh at me!! This picture was taken by my Uncle Ron, the day he brought me to the Mommy's. I was so scared she would not want me because, after all, I was kinda a strange looking dachshund. It was love at first sight for me and The Mommy says for her too!! After a year of being fostered by a very nice lady, I found my forever home....Now I'm gonna start crying.

The Mommy did want to show you a few things that are precious to us from when Samantha as alive and a little story too.

The Mommy had this picture taken of Samantha by a friend of hers from work that also made the frame and carved her name on it. It hangs in the living room of my house where every body can she her when they walk in. The picture we posted of me for my before picture is right next to it. The Mommy's two precious girls!!!

This is the way the Mommy thinks about Samantha. She was so cute when she napped. Her Uncle Benny have it to her when Samantha was a baby so it is 18 years old too.

This little red angel guards Samantha and all the things that were most precious to the Mommy....her little blanket, her collar, her little blue bear and her ashes.

These are some of Samantha's stuffy collection. I don't get to play with them but neither did she.....cause the Mommy was collecting beanie babies & just used my sister as a reason to buy them.....What a Doofuss!!!

And this was Samantha's little blue bear, well it used to be blue anyway, and had a little pink bow tie that matched it's nose. Uncle Benny won it in one of those stuffed animal thingies that you put 50 cents in and this little crane picks something up, if your lucky. Samantha had many, many stuffed animals, but this was the only one she ever played with. He was also her humping partner and when he wasn't cooperating, she'd get it by one of it's arms and shake it to pieces. He was her companion, for 13 of her 15 years, while the Mommy worked every day. It has a place of honor right next to her ashes. When Samantha died, the Mommy, sleep with it until she got ME.

Since the Mommy is an old maid, she had her chances but never took them, Samantha was her life and meant everything to the Mommy the way I hope I mean now. Samantha would have done anything for the Mommy too. She was very protective and she proved it one night. Here briefly is the story.

One night when Samantha was about 4 years old, somebody tried to break into the house. They had already broken into the garage and tried to break into the house through the patio door. The Mommy was snoring away when Samantha starting barking & growling really, really loud. She jumped off the bed and was standing her ground in front of the curtain, barking her little head off. The Mommy called 911 and a few minuets later the police got there. The Mommy put Samantha into the bedroom and closed the door because she was afraid she would try to bite the policemen. BUT SHE KEPT BARKING!! The police said thank goodness the Mommy had a BIG dog and the theives got scared and ran off when they heard all the barking. So then, when Samantha came trotting out, they couldn't believe such a small little thing had caused such a racket. They said she probably saved the Mommy's life that night.
She was quite a little girl and I can understand why The Mommy misses her so much.
Today's quote says it all......someday the Mommy and Samantha will be together again either at the Rainbow Bridge or Heaven, it doesn't matter just so they are together again.
Thanks for letting us share the Mommy's memories with all of you but I've gotta go now........you guessed it she's crying again....What a Doofuss but then she is MY DOOFUSS!!!.....................Love ya Mona & the Mommy

Samantha sounds like she was quite the gal. We can see why she was so special to the mommy. Hey tell the mommy that we got the toys out of the closet but we can't take any video because our girl took the card with the most memory with her to Grammie's and the one mom has will only take 12 secs of video.
