Today be a mighty big day down here in HOUSTON, TEXAS. It's GO TEXAN DAY!!! For the next few weeks it will be nothing but horses, trail rides coming to town, rodeo, BBQ cook offs, livestock shows, the big parade tomorrow & everything will be cowboy and everybody will were nothing but jeans & cowboy boots. YAHOO, GET EM UP HORSIE!! RODEO time is special to the Mommy for a couple of reasons--one reason be cause she be a born an bred native Texan--one reason be she lived in the country during the summers growing up & loved horses, mules and donkeys--another reason be that all during the time the Rodeo be here she can wear jeans and her cowgirl garb at work but the main reason be SAMANTHA and 2 very special memories.
Most everybody already knows who Samantha was but for those that don't, she was the Mommy's very first & only dog that was just hers and hers alone. The Mommy got Samantha from a breeder when she was only 8 weeks old and she was the Mommy's heart for almost 15 years before she died in January 2005.
Here be a memory: One Go TEXAN DAY when Samantha was about 3 years old, she & the Mommy went to downtown Houston for the Livestock Show and Rodeo Parade. The Mommy told me Samantha was so excited cause her never seen horses before and she barked & barked & barked & the Mommy thought she be afraid but they stayed anyway. After the parade Samantha & the Mommy went to visit the Mommy's Aunt & Uncle who lived close to downtown. All thoughts about horses were gone or so the Mommy thought. BUT, on the way home they had to go down Allen Parkway, one of the routes the trail riders took to get back to Memorial Park where they stayed. The Mommy & Samantha were stopped at a light with the windows rolled down. There were bunches of horses being ridden on the grass when out of nowhere a big, huge horsie must have got a peek at Samantha hanging almost out the window just looking wide eyed at everything and stock his head in the window. The Mommy was terrified that the horse would try to bite Samantha but just froze almost panic stricken. What ya think happened? Samantha & this big, huge horsie started rubbing noses and Samantha was licking his face & he liked it. When the Mommy could breath again, she tried to pull Samantha away but the big, huge horsie keep putting his head further into the car to get at her. Well, the cowboy riding the big, huge horsie finally got his head out the car and they had a good laugh over the antics of a tiny little dog and a big huge horsie.
Here be the other memory: During the summer of that year, one of the Mommy's uncles who lives in the country invited the whole family and all their pets over for a big TEXAS BBQ. Uncle Jimmy has a bunch of critters on his land including ducks, chickens, horses, cows and even had a potbellied big called "SHE DUDLEY" Everybody was having a wonderful time chowing down & then Uncle Jimmie called all the dogs to come over to give them bones, they all came EXCEPT Samantha. Where do you think she was? She was in the pasture playing with 4 of Uncle Jimmy's big, huge horsies--running around their legs, them licking her & her licking them back!! After the Mommy could breath again, her took Samantha out & gave her her bone. After that whenever the Mommy couldn't find Samantha, she'd go right to the pasture and take her back out. After several trips to the country & the same behavior. the Mommy didn't even look for her anymore, let her come back on her own and just went & got her when it was time to go home. Samantha was a big, fearless cowdoggie for sure.
Since this post is about Samantha, me told the Mommy to show all my friends what Samantha looked like. The Mommy don't remember how old she was in this picture but it was the closest picture to the computer so here she be.
This is the Mommy now---I didn't have the heart to put my precious girl in the ground when she died, so she was cremated and has her own special little place in the study where I can see her and talk to her as I still do and will until the day I die.
This is Samantha's special place in the bookshelf surrounded by her special things.
This little blue bear was her constant companion, humping partner and bestest friend. It used to have a little red bow tie on it but it is long gone. As you can see, it is a little chewed on but she never took the stuffing out. The little red angel dog was a gift from a friend when she died to help her on her way to the rainbow bridge.
This last picture is a copy of the Rainbow Bridge and a little angel protecting Samantha for me until I meet her again at the Rainbow Bridge. My idea of heaven is to be with Samantha when it is my time to go. I don't want to sound morbid but the family knows that when I go, they need to put Samantha's little velvet box in with me.
This be a very long post but forgive me and the Mommy for taking up your time but where Samantha is concerned there is no time limit for the memories. Now every doggie and the Mommies can understand why sometimes the Mommy will forget my name and call me Samantha or be talking about me but still say the wrong name. Me know the Mommy misses her first baby girl lots & lots but I know she loves me and doesn't do it on purpose. My dream someday is to meet my sister when it's my time to go to the rainbow bridge and then all three of us and all the Mommies beloved boy doggies will be together for eternity.
Gotta go now cause the Mommy has started crying & she needs to cry for awhile on my shoulder....love to every doggie lots & lots...Mona
