Aug 2014 Dachshund Adoptions

QUOTES  OF THE DAY:

If you adopt, you'll save a life.

Around 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized each year in the United States simply because too many people give up their pets, and too few people adopt from shelters

Adopting a pet will make you feel better.

Pets have a way of putting a smile on your face and a spring in your step. Not only do animals give you unconditional love, but they have been shown to be psychologically, emotionally, and physically beneficial. Caring for a companion animal can provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment and lessen feelings of loneliness and isolation in all age groups.

Hi Blogville,

It's that time again to report the Pawsome Adoptions for
the 3 Dachshund Rescue groups we help support. There were
a total of 47 lucky pups that found homes during August.
We are very excited because Teddy, Bentley's foster brother
got adopted and guess what else? Maxwell, Bentley's other
foster brother got adopted in September. That means Aunt
Pam & Uncle Tim can foster a few more. Maybe even a senior.

 Every September ATDR's focus is
on finding homes for the many seniors
in our care. They deserve homes too!!
Did you know that a senior is defined as
any dog over 8 years old? Weenie was 9
when we adopted him and Prissy was 9 too
and we all know that Prissy sure doesn't
act like a senior. Won't you consider a senior,
of any breed, to adopt. You won't be sorry.
I haven't been. --- the Mommy, Sarah

September is Seniors Month.  Reduced adoption fee on all Seniors – 10 and Above - $150!

Sherlock
Adopted: August 8, 2014

Brothers adopted together...........

Sherlock is a dilute red wirehaired male dachshund. He and his brother Holmes are cute, cute, cute and very active! Sherlock is the bold adventurer of the duo. He is quick to investigate novel things and quick to learn new things. He is neutered, HW negative and fully vetted. He is a happy-go-lucky boy who is great with other dogs. Not tested with kids or cats.

These boys are in perpetual motion. They are very athletic. I have not observed prey drive. They are both anxious to please. Both are crate-trained. If you have an active lifestyle and seek a couple of goofy companions to keep you company, Sherlock and Holmes are your guys.

Bebe
Adopted: August 8, 2014

Bebe's story......

Bebe was picked up as a stray in a small south Texas town with tags and personal information attached.  Her people promised the shelter that they would show up but never did and then the phone was disconnected!  This sweet girl still doesn't understand what she did to deserve losing her home!

Bebe is a fun loving and easy going girl that just wants to have fun!  Her family acknowledged her ear injury (missing the bottom flap on one side) and said that Bebe's mother had chewed it off while she was nursing.  Aside from a little cosmetic issue, Bebe is undaunted by the loss.  She lets no grass grow under those feet and is busy and happy as can be all of the time.  She is great with other dogs, a bit demanding of attention as a lot of girls are, but so very loving!

If you don't mind a shorter ear and a full energy pup - Bebe is your girl!

 Carlie and Heidi......sisters adopted together

Beautiful Mother Cricket was surrendered with her babies in a North Texas Shelter! Many volunteers from the shelter mobilized to make sure those babies were safe and didn't spend any unnecesary time in the pound.  Wisked to a foster home they awaited the word that ATDR would take them.  More volunteers stepped up to move her from the DFW area all the way to Seguin.  BTW---Cricket was adopted in July of this year.

Message from Scooter's famnily.....

Today makes almost four weeks since we lost the love of our lives, our Dachshund, Andy (Andouille) to hemangiosarcoma... and one week since we adopted Scooter McFly, who has totally stolen and helped heal our hearts! We've always felt that although we can never replace one of our fur companions, when we lose one, it opens up a space of love for another one who is waiting out there, in need of a safe and loving family. We wanted to share a couple of pictures with you guys. Scooter is in motion so much throughout the day (playing with toys and running around with his terrier sister, Maddie) that it's hard to catch a shot of him being still. As for the second pic: Man, if only he would make himself comfortable when he goes to sleep at night! LOL! Thank you guys so much for all that you do—and thank you to Marcie and Chess for taking care of this amazing little dog until fate led us to him!
