Goodbye 2009 and Happy New Year

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass,
It's about learning to dance in the rain."

(Dachshund making snow angels)

(My favorite picture of 2009 of my Mona....the Mommy)

Hi dear friends,
Mona...
Well 2009 is almost gone and Mommy can't wait for it to be over. 2009 was not a very happy year for the family. We lost 5 dear family members and the pain is still with Mommy and she prays that 2010 will be a better year. We are going to end 2009 with my bestest city friends and start 2010 with my country friends. So bye bye 2009 with a dachsie playdate and hello 2010 with a really big dachsie playdate tomorrow.
The decorations have all come done a work except for the reindeer on Mommy's desk and she said she's not taking it off. She is kinda strange like that.

Mommy...
My sweet Mona had a wonderful year. She made lots of new friends through DWB and spent many happy hours playing with her bestest friends, George, Harley, Bandit and Brooklyn at Judy's where we have both been treated like part of the family. We were able this year to visit Mona's boyfriend, Sammy, and his family in the country many times and that rocker on the porch always makes me perk up. Strange but then you gotta take pleasure where and when you can. Mary, Dachsie Rules Mom, told us about DWB and made it possible for us to have you, the wonderful DWB family, on our side. DROH volunteers stick together and thanks to their support I have not gone totally mad this year but as important as them is you. I appreciate every kind work from everyone of you and your families. All it takes is reading a few blogs and I smile again.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Be safe and see you next year!!!

Love, kisses and {{{huggies}}} to all........Mona and the Mommy, Sarah too

Sooooo excited!!

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
"On a chilly winter night, my dog jumps on the bed and warms by cold feet."
-- K. Bear

Hi friends,

I have one thing to say...........BRRRRRRRRRRRR!! It is just too cold for me and Mommy. Much too cold for the old girl's arthritis. As today's quote says, I have been warming Mommy's feet a lot lately. It wouldn't be so bad if it would stop raining. Why can't it be snow instead of rain., At least the snow is pretty to watch. But enough complaining. "I am so excited!!!" Mommy is much better now and ready to hit the road for a adventure. I wanted to let you know what's going on in case, I don't get to blog for a few days. "Mona, I promise to try to do a post tonight after work, but there is so much to do."

Mommy's off for 4 whole days, starting tomorrow and that's when the fun starts.

Bandit, George and Brooklyn.

Harley

Remember my bes est friends that own Aunt Judy? Well me and Mommy are spending tomorrow night & Friday night at their house and in between we are all going a day trip Friday to Aunt Mary. Know what that means? "We're going to the country!! I'm coming soon, my Sammy. Be still my heart!!" We haven't been to the country in forever.
When our old computer went to the big DELL graveyard, it took all our pictures with it, that's why I don't have any pictures of my country friends and my man. Don't worry, Aunt Mary said she can retrieve them from the old hard drive and I can guarantee Mommy will take lots more this weekend.
Mommy said that Aunt Tina, Chris and Emily might meet us there with their
dogs too. Wow!! That would be 9 dachshunds and 4 other doggies. Now that a play date!!
Gotta go now...........Love, kisses and {{{huggies}}} to all.........Mona
PS....please go to the DWB Newsroom to read about the chat tomorrow to celebrate the arrival of 2010. We'll be there. Bussie has all details on his blog.

My best Christmas present & Mommy's too!!!

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"You always sympathize with the underdog, except when the other dog is yours."
--- Anonymous

Hi everybody,

It was a wonderful Christmas for me and Mommy, even though we couldn't post for what seemed like forever. Mommy got to be home for 4 whole days and spent all but Christmas Eve with me. There was over 20 adults at my Aunt Pam's and only 2 children, so I stayed home, but that was OK, I didn't want to get stepped on. Money has been very tight lately and Mommy said we couldn't afford a new computer until after the new year. Then it happened!! SJMC gave two $300.00 bonuses to qualified associates in the CBO for exceeding goals for the months of October and November. They told everybody on the 23rd that the money would be on thier checks on the 24th. Mommy was so excited. She said it was the best Christmas gift she had ever gotten and the timing was perfect. So now we have a new computer and hopefully we can catchup on everything we missed.

Mommy bought me a bunch of my favorite treats, a new Christmas bandanna and a orange rooster. He even talks to me and chirps. I love him!!

Here I am with my new Christmas bandanna with snowmen heads on it.

A few days before Christmas, the mail person brought me a package from Addie, Lucie and Hailey, but Mommy wouldn't let me open it until Christmas day. I had to look at that box forever until Mommy said I could have it. It was worth the wait.

I was soooo excited, I was all paws so Mommy had to open it for me.

I got balls and toys and a Christmas tree and Moose cookie....Yummylicious!!
Mommy got some stuff too!! Thank you so much ladies!!!

This is my orange rooster. Mommy and I played tug of war with him and his neck almost came off. He still is still intact for now and hasn't lost his stuffing yet. I been dragging him in and out of the house and tossing him around so his days are numbered.

Mommy gave me just a little of my Peppermint flavored cookie I got from Addie, Lucie and Hailey. She said it was way to big to eat all at once. Just whose cookie is it anyway?

Mommy just learned how to take a video with my new camera. This is her first attempt. She was trying to get me to play with my rooster but as you can see I wasn't cooperating much.

It's so good to be back. Gotta go to bed now............Love, kisses and {{{huggies}}}
to all.........Mona

We are back!!

QUOTE OF THE DAY:----the day after Christmas---

"It is fatal to let any DOG know that he is funny, for he immediately loses his head and starts hamming it up."
--- P. G. Wodehouse

Hi dearest friends,

Happy day after Christmas!! I have missed you all sooooo much!! Roxie, Sammy and Andy's Mommy has been at my house all afternoon, she's now taking a well deserved nap. Aunt Mary went with Mommy to Frye's to help Mommy buy me a new computer and then Aunt hooked everything up. We are now up and running. We have a LOT!! of catching up to do so tomorrow Mommy and I will be visiting as many blogs as we can. I can't wait to see & hear about all your Christmas adventures.

I just wanted everybody to know we are back, but Mommy said we can't post much tonight because we have company and she needs to finish cooking dinner. She made a pot of spaghetti sauce with stew meat, chicken drummets and hard boiled eggs, and now she has to cook the pasta.

So see you all tomorrow!!! Hope everybody had a wonderful Christmas, I did, cause I have had Mommy home for 3 whole days and she's off tomorrow too!! Then she only has to work for 3 days and be home another 4 days. That's what I call a great Christmas pressie.

Love, kisses and {{{huggies}}} to all............Mona & the Mommy too!!

Merry Christmas Wishes

Hi dear friends,
Mommy did kill our computer. She says she is not spending another dime on it. It is over 5 years old and has been in the shop 3 times since she got it. Mommy said we can't afford another computer until after the first of the year. So this will be our last post for this year, unless we go visiting Aunt Judy or can use Aunt Pam's computer like we are right now. Mommy is only going to work 3 days this week and 3 days next week because of the holidays. That means 8 days at home without being able to visit your blogs. I am so disappointed, Mommy too. We will try to post once in a while if we can on some body's computer but please know that we will be thinking of all of my dear friends and your peeps. Please don't forget me!!!
We want to wish everybody the best Christmas ever, with lots of treats and pressies for all of you. We have received so many Christmas cards from the DWB Christmas card exchange and they all are so special to us. Before our computer died we also had lots of e-mail cards and I promise we will read any new ones when we are up and running again. I hope everybody enjoyed my Christmas cards. Thanks so much dear Mango, the Maltese, for helping with my Christmas card wording and many, many thanks to Zoolatry for designing my card. It was very special!!
Mommy said that we must remember the reason for the season. All the treats and pressies are nice but the most important thing is the birth of the baby Jesus.
We love you all so much and will miss you all and your peeps.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! & GOD BLESS
Love, kisses and {{{huggies}}} to all.......Mona & Mommy too!!!

Mommy's almost back!!

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
6 days until Christmas

"God bless them everyone" -- Tiny Tim from a Christmas Carol

Hi friends,

She's back!! Yep that's my Mommy doing what she does best....EAT!!

Mommy felt much better yesterday, about 85%. so she decided we needed something to do, so she decided what she needed was a doggie fix.....a George fix to be exact. So off we went to Aunt Judy's. We are still here actally, using Judy's computer cause I think Mommy killed our computer. This morning she couldn't get it to power up. I guess we'll find out tonight after we get home, so this might be our last post for awhile.

So here goes. My first dachsie play date in a while. Long overdue I'd say. You know. of course, that the first thing Mommy did was get her George fix.

GEORGE

Since it's been awhile since you have seen me here I am.

I'm guarding the ball, I stole from Brooklyn. She has tons of then, so it's only fair that she shares but Mommy said I can't take it home.

Before we get on to the day's excitement of the day, we gotta show you the new kissing booth that DROH had made. It is very sturdy and still needs to be painted and decorated but it is gonna be fantastic!!!

Here are Brooklyn, Bandit and George lined up waiting for Aunt Judy. She can't get out of their sight without being worried she won't come back. Very understandable........I do the same thing with my Mommy too.

Harley, on the alert.

"What is it? What's everybody looking at"

"Hey Mona!! Looks what's in that tree!!

"OMD....Squirrels!!!! Lots and lots of squirrels!!

"Oh my dog!! They're everywhere!! Hundreds of them, no thousands."

Mommy here....It wasn't quite a hundred but Judy & I counted around 10 or more. We were sitting in the backyard when Brooklyn went ballistic. Remember at Thanksgiving she killed and was eating a squirrel. Well I think she had a taste of blood then and wanted more, cause as soon as she saw a squirrel she tried to climb the fence. We watched them for over an hour, jumping from limb to limb. Judy thinks the rodents were teasing the dogs but they need to watch out because Brooklyn is determined to catch another one.

It has been a wonderful restful day. It is very comfortable here, almost like being at home. I have gotten in lots of cuddling with George, took a nap and we went to lunch at T-Bone Toms in Kemah. If you've ever watched Drive ins, Diners and Dives on the Food Network, you might recognize the place. It was spotlighted on the show November 23rd.

Mommy has been eating almost nothing much but soup in the last three weeks so she wanted meat so she had a big old rib-eye steak. I guess it was yummy...but then who would I know....yep none for any of us doggies. In case your wondering, that's bread pudding she and Judy shared.

Mommy and I would like to thank everybody for the kind words from all of you and yes I took really good care of her. Keep your fingers crossed she gets 100% well by Christmas.

Love, kisses and {{{huggies}}}.....Mona & Mommy too!!

Still Sick and Very Discouraged

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"There is something to be said about how quickly a dog makes friends compared to a human." --- Anonymous

Hi dear friends,

Sorry we haven't been around in a while, but Mommy is still sick, she's on antibiotics now, and just doesn't feel well at all. At least it isn't the swine flu or even flu and thank the Lord, no fever. It's a bacterial larynx infection. Mommy isn't supposed to talk and if you know my Mommy, you know that is very hard to do. Yesterday was Rob's rosary and Mommy didn't go because she was feeling so bad and today it has been very cold and stormy so she didn't go to the funeral either. She is very sad because she feels guilty that she didn't go but the family didn't want her to get out in the bad weather and get sicker. I don't want her to get sicker either.

I've got to tell you this. My Mommy is not a very good patient and, well, talks kinda crazy when she doesn't feel well. Yesterday she called my Aunt Judy, not my real aunt, and asked her for a favor. She was crying and said if something happens to her, would she come get me and make sure nothing happens to me and if she couldn't keep me, make sure DROH gets me back. WAIT A MINUTE!!! Mommy can't go anywhere without me. NOW, I'M CRYING TOO!!

Last night, Mommy told Aunt Pam, my real aunt, that if anything does happen to her to make sure she calls Judy. Aunt Pam doesn't care for dogs but my Uncle Sonny loves me. After the funeral today, Aunt Pam and Uncle Sonny came over to check on Mommy and said something that made the Mommy very happy.....Uncle Sonny wants me!!! He will play with me, give me treats and let me even cuddle with him when he takes naps. I love my Uncle Sonny.

Mommy hasn't been able to get her George fix in several weeks now since we have been staying home on the weekends, being sick messes everything up, so Aunt Judy sent this picture of George with Bandit napping. George always makes Mommy happy and she wishes she could just reach through the computer screen and grab him. I'm not jealous of George but then I'm always on Mommy's lap to make sure he doesn't get all her sugars.

Mommy found the picture of babies in heaven and thought what a wonderful place it must be. It made her think of Baby Lucas and Baby Chloe and she could imagine them there now playing with precious Jody , watched over by my sister Samantha and all the DWB dogs and kitties we have lost this year. Too many to count but never forgotten. Rob would be there too, Grandpa to all, because he did love grand kids.

Love, kisses and {{{huggies}}} to all....Mona

Another sad day for the family......

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

12 days until Christmas

"The disposition of noble dogs is to be gentle with people they know and the opposite with those they don't know. How, then, can the dog be anything other than a lover of learning since it defines what's it's own and what's alien?" -- Plato

Hi dear friends,

Mommy & I wants everybody to know, that doesn't know it already, how much Dogs With Blogs means to us. A few hours ago we were taking a nap.....yes Mommy did take me to the post office bright and early this morning..... when my Aunt Pam called to say that our cousin, Rob, had a stroke in church this morning and hit his head when he fell. The stroke was massive and he is not expected to make it.

Mommy just lost one cousin and has lost so many family members this year that it never seems to end. Besides still not feeling well, she's going to the doctor tomorrow, this had to happen. Death is hard, as we all know, but now at Christmas when we should be happy and laughing?

Mommy came into the computer room and was just staring at the blank screen for a long time, when a "you've got mail" message popped up. Mommy opened it up and it was a gorgeous Christmas card from Chloe @ http://www.thechloesdiary.blogspot.com/ and it made the Mommy smile and stop crying. Then she opened one from Angela and Laney @ http://thesuperpup.blogspot.com/ and she smiled some more. Then she opened all the other e-mail cards I have gotten and really started laughing.....

"This is what DWB means to us. We all share our joys and heartaches with each other and draw strength from that. When Mommy is at her saddest, she only has to open a pup's blog and share in the marvelous adventures us doggies have.
She knows which pups will make her laugh, the ones that I have crushes on and all the wonderful peeps that have the great honor of our presence in their lives."

Now I need your help!! I want a new Christmas harness for the holidays and Mommy said this one is still in good shape. What do you think? Help me talk her into having Aunt Judy make me a new one.

Thanks dearest friends for being here for us all the time.

Love, kisses and {{{huggies}} to all..........Mona

Finally Done

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

13 days until Christmas

YAHOO!!! WHIPPIE!!

My Christmas cards are finally ready!!!

"Can we go to the post office now, Mommy?"

"Mona, it's almost midnight, it's way past my bedtime. I'm a sick woman remember. We'll go in the morning."

"OK....Mommy but can we go to the post office really, really early tomorrow morning, PLEASE?"

"Say good night, like a good girl"

AND THE WINNER IS

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"We don't stop laughing because we grow old;
we grow old because we stop laughing."

Hi my doggie, kitty and hammie friends and your peeps.

The SJMC Tree Decorating Contest was a huge success. Mommy posted pictures of 13 of the trees that entered the contest but there were a bunch more that didn't get to be judged because they missed the deadline. Yesterday Mommy forgot to take her camera to the associates dinner, so we don't have pictures of the late arrivals but they were all beautiful!! We had two doggies that guessed the correct tree but first before the big announcement of the winning tree and our doggie winners, here are the pictures of the runner ups.

Tree Decorating Contest

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"When a dog is feeling down, all it needs is a little physical attention to make it feel happy again."

Hi friends,

The winning tree and department have not been announced as yet, but Mommy promises to find out tomorrow and post the picture of the tree and reveal how may doggies might have picked the winner. Today SJMC had there annual Associate Christmas Dinner. Mommy said the food was to die for but do you think she brought me anything.......NO!!.....not even a crumb.

The menu was a choice of a rib eye steak or Chicken Cordon Blue. Mommy being a carnivore, like me, had to have the steak, with mashed potatoes, broccoli casserole, grilled squash/carrots, rolls, a drink and 6, yes 6, different kinds of cheese cake. Again, did I get any.....NO!! She choose the strawberry swirl cheesecake........so much for dieting today. "No supper for you tonight, Mommy."

Can't visit much tonight cause my lazy old Mommy hasn't finished my Christmas cards and since she can't type and write at the same time, we are out of here. Mommy says her goal is to get them in the mail Saturday. We'll just have to wait and see.

Love, kisses and {{{huggies}}} to all............Mona

Sharing "A Differnt Christmas Poem"

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

16 days until Christmas

"All knowledge, the totality of all questions and all answers is contained in the dog." -- Franz Kalka

Hi friends,

I wanted wanted to share with all of you a poem, we received at work today. It is part of the Sharing program at the hospital. Of course I cried. We dedicate this post to all our service men and women who help keep us free, just like Peanut & Flash's Dad does.

It was from LCDR Jeff Giles, SC, USN......30th Naval Construction Regiment......OIC, Logistics Cell One.....Al Taqqadum, Iraq

A Different Christmas Poem

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.
The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know,
Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.
A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.
"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"
For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts.
To the window that danced with a warm fire's light,
Then he sighed and he said, "Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night.
It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.
"No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at 'Pearl' on a day in December."
Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas Gram always remembers.
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam',
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.
"I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile."
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue . . . an American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home."
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother.
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall.
"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."
"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."
Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget,
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled,
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us.
We are sharing this with all of you just as this soldier asked us to do in this note.

PLEASE, would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.

God Bless......Sarah, Mona's Mommy

A POEM FROM EMMA'S MOM

QUOTE OF OF THE DAY:

17 days until Christmas

"The more I know about men, the more I like dogs." -- Gloria Allred

Hi friends,

The little cutie below is Emma. She is not a DROH doggie but belongs to a lady who found out about my Aunt Judy making harnesses to raise money for DROH. She lives in California and has ordered quite a few a few harness/leash combos as well as making a yearly donation to help meet our matching fundraisers. This year Emma's Mom asked Aunt Judy to make Emma a Christmas harness, so Aunt Judy suprised her and made a matching cap as a Christmas gift to Emma. She was trilled and wrote this poem for DROH. So Mommy & I wanted to share it with all of you.
TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, AND ALL THROUGH THE KITCHEN,
WAS LITTLE EMMA IN HER OUTFIT, WHO REALLY LOOKED WITCHIN.

OTHER DOXIES WERE ASLEEP IN A SOFT LITTLE BED,
WHILE EMMA WAS STROKING THE CAP ON HER HEAD.

IT HAD A HOLE IN EACH SIDE FOR THOSE LONG DOXIE EARS,
SO THE OOH'S AND THE AAH'S WOULD BE SO EASY TO HEAR

WHEN WHAT TO MY WONDERING EYES SHOULD APPEAR,
AN ENTIRE CHRISTMAS OUTFIT EXPOSING ONLY HER REAR.

NOW THIS LITTLE DOGGIE IS A REALLY A STAR,
WITH HER HAT, HER LEASH AND HER LITTLE SPORTS BRA.

NEVER LET IT BE SAID THAT THIS DOG DOES NOT CARE, THE FASHION STATEMENT SHE MAKES IN HER CUSTOM MADE GEAR.

SHE FEELS THAT HER OUTFIT IS NOT QUITE COMPLETE,
SO SHE'S OUT LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO PUT ON HER FEET.

I CAN TELL YOU RIGHT NOW, EMMA WOULD NOT HAVE A THING,
BUT FOR THE CLEVERNESS AND LOVE BY ONE JUDY SPRING.

BUT WHEN THIS SWEET STORY IS ALL SAID AND DONE,
IT WAS DACHSHUND RESCUE OF HOUSTON THAT SUPPLIED ALL THE FUN.

THESE CREATURES OF GOD ARE JUST HERE ON LOAN.
BUT IT'S DACHSHUND RESCUE OF HOUSTON THAT GIVES THEM A HOME.

IF EVERYONE WHO READS THIS COULD DONATE TO THEIR CAUSE,
THEY COULD BECOME FOR THOSE DOXIES A REAL SANTA CLAUSE.

by Eilleen Lento

Where my Mommy works, they are having a Secret Santa gift exchange in her department, where everyday during the week before Christmas, you buy something for the person you drew like candy, a drink, chips or whatever and on the last day you bring a big gift, not more than $25.00, and reveal yourself as your person's Secret Santa. You make a list of the four things you most would like to get.

This is Mommy's wish list:

#1 A donation to DROH in Samatha's memory

#2 A donation to DROH in Jody's memory

#3 A donation to DROH in Joanie's memory

#4 a donation to DROH to honor my baby Mona.

Do you think there is any doubt what Mommy wants?

DACHSHUND RESCUE OF HOUSTON MATCHING FUND RAISER 2009

December 2 update:

We've updated the total, please take a look! As you will see, we've made significant progress, but we're not quite there.

I know, Mommy is always begging but it is for a good cause. If it weren't for DROH, I wouldn't be here with my Mommy now.
Love, kisses and {{{huggies}}} to all.........Mona
