"Histories are more full of examples of the fidelity of dogs than of friends." --- Alexander Pope
My name is Samantha and I have been at the bridge for more than four years now, waiting until my Mommy, you know her as the Mommy, comes to stay with me. I was with my Mommy for my whole life, from the time I was 8 weeks old until my Mommy & Dr Ruth helped me go to live with the angel doggies, kitties and and hammies at the rainbow bridge that leads you into heaven. I was almost 15 when I had to leave. In May 2004, I got very sick....Cushings, then renal failure and finally diabetes. I wanted to stay with my Mommy forever but the pain at the end was too much too bear, so she helped me go. Mommy didn't want another dog because she said it would hurt to much but I knew better. I saw how unhappy she was so..........
I went & talked to the head angel in heaven and told her I was very unhappy because Mommy was so unhappy and she said she would find the perfect dog for my Mommy, that would still be a dachshund but wouldn't remind her of me...no red ones this time.
I've never come down and visited before but today is a very special day........it's my little sister's Gotcha Day. Mona came into my Mommy's life, not to replace me but to bring joy back into my Mommy's life, 4 years ago today.
Mona here....it's my gotcha day but to me it is my birthday cause my life began the day my Mommy adopted me.
I miss my Mommy very much but I knew she had lots of love yet to share so I didn't mind sharing her cause I know when it's her time to go, she'll be coming straight to me. It is not lonely and I have lots of friends here to play with and run free with without any aches or pains. I asked the head angel if it would be OK, if I became the official greeter at the bridge and she said I could. So now me, Lacy Lulu, Zoe, Poo Poo, Baby Girl and all the other loved ones everybody has lost are always together laughing and talking until we will all be together again. My most favorite friend is the little imp Jody, that entertains all of us. I love him so much because my Mommy loved him too.
So here are some pictures of my little sister taken in the 4 years she has been with my Mommy. She is a sweetheart and everybody loves her just like they did me. Most everybody knows that the Mommy went on to adopt a total of 5 doggies, 4 boys and Mona, and has fostered countless others. Had I not had to leave, my Mommy would have never gotten involved with Dachshund Rescue of Houston. You also know that she had to give all my brothers back to DROH when she got really sick. She kept my little sister and keeping Mona was what has saved her from going off the deep end. I thank Mona for taking such good care of my Mommy for me!!
